Why is the younger generation of men more conservative than in the past?

Or, put another way, a lack of wealth and economic stability lead to conservative views.

There are still some, but it’s not the same as the Bush or Tea Party years.

This. They've been brainwashed for the past 10 years by weirdo older men on Youtube, video game chat channels, etc that were funded by billionaire conservatives. Andrew Tate, Prager U, et al explicitly began targeting minor boys with their slanted content.

They literally were indoctrinated to start hating women and "others" when they were 14-15 years old. And no one has really written the true story about this. They didn't target teen girls with this content - just boys.

This, and the pandemic was an accelerant. Spending 2020-2021 in social isolation drove young men to the right for two reasons: First, more extroverted young people could blame Democrats for the pandemic overreach (and I agree it was overreach in retrospect even if it might have seemed the right policy at the time). And second, introverted young men would spend even MORE time going down online rabbit holes.

While that’s true, I detest these young men and boys with every fiber of my being. I’m mixed race and the parent of a good-natured DD; my octogenarian White father and my DH and brother have none of these vile qualities. I detest not only the perennially online element of culture that has seeded this toxicity, but the failed parenting that helped incubate it into flower. We see a lot of it here, and if you run a search on the longer threads regarding school violence from ES through HS, on how to keep boys from ‘falling behind,’ and the like, you see that parenting mores have reemphasized this kind of sociopathic material so that too many young White men are convinced that they have to destroy all girls and women and most POC to feel okay about themselves. It’s multi factorial but parenting failures are also very much to blame.

Just say you hate poor people, especially poor men. It would be faster and more to the point.

LBJ’s assessment of the Southern Strategy was dead on.

Lee Atwater, may he suffer for all of measurable time in the afterlife, also knew this. It’s the political undercurrent animating sociopaths like Musk and phenomena like GamerGate.

My dad comes from no-plumbing, worked at age 6, rural midwestern poverty steeped in Pentecostal tradition, and I voted for Sanders in the primary when available. So you can eat sh!t and may your son get what he deserves in life, constantly.

What a reversal!

It is because progressivism has leaned hard towards totalitarianism, specifically control of speech.

Also control of movement and thought, see pandemic shutdowns.

Anecdotal and I know I will get shredded here, but I grew up in a very liberal area in the 90s, went to public schools, state university, voted for Dems all along, Obama in 08 didn't come from money but middle class and worked odd jobs before, through, and after college. My family is pretty comfortable now financially and I would say my views are conservative by today's standards.

Well, and liberals, particularly a lot of wealthy women, cannot keep a lid on how much they despise poor and working class men.

Why would anybody ever vote for a political party that telegraphs far and wide how much it hates you for who you are? We don’t expect women to vote Republican these days — and hopefully they will carry Harris to victory — so I do not understand why anyone expects poor and working class men to vote for Democrats.

It’s so wild watching DCUM threads on this. It is such a bubble here.

They pretty much start new student orientations with the presumption that all males = rapists or rapists in waiting during the gender identity and sexual orientation sensitivity training portion of the program. They spend inordinate amounts of time in schools now trying to indoctrinate them they cis gendered males = bad!

Your response is so stupid.

The problem starts in kindergarten. I have 2 sons. I've said all along that schools are for girls. They must sit quietly at 5 years old or they are scolded. Taking recess out of school does not work for boys. We went to far.

We took VoTech out of high schools and pushed everyone to go to college.

The idea that immigrants take living wage jobs from Americans is ridiculous. I work in the energy industry. I just left an energy conference where the President of the building trades union talked about how desperate they are for union workers. These are 6 figure jobs.

We also need tons of employees in renewable energy jobs. These are very well paying jobs. There are so many opportunities. These are not jobs going to immigrants, but they do require training, which is free for those who want it.

These jobs pay enough to support a family.

I will never understand this mindset. I come here primarily to read comments to see what goes on outside of my own bubble. I try to refrain from posting to not rile people up, but one thing I can't get over is how people can claim to be so virtuous against various threats and then express complete disdain for those they disagree with or inherently view as inferior.

OP, hang out in poorer areas and the answer to you question will be obvious.

Explain it to us.

Why are poor 20 year olds more conservative than poor 27 year olds?

Because the poorer boys are coming of age after Covid, which was used as an excuse by a lot of corporations to break down jobs that used to be paths towards working for lower-class men. In the meantime, a sharp uptick in immigration under Democrats has increased job competition.

DCUM has no understanding, interest, or sympathy for labor issues for LMC and poor people, particularly men, so I am assuming this is news to you. But the labor market has changed dramatically in the past ten years, and the ones harmed have been poor and working class men.

Not sure why you assume that we don't know poor people. Very strange. I'm black. Half of my family is really poor and 1/2 is middle class. I happen to be more upper class, but I still hang with my family. Unions are dying for workers. Building trades, electricians, plumbers, etc. These jobs are not going to immigrants. Young men don't seem to want these jobs either even though they pay 6 figures.

I'm not sure what young men. It's as if they think that it's their god given right to be successful without having to work for it.

So you’re 12:08 and 12:10, do you work? I mean, you’re like a labor organizer right? Chapo Trap House fan? Lolz.

You total and complete idiot. Life’s gonna feel rough next Wednesday morning for you. I commend your work with William Barber on the Poor People’s Campaign.

It’s this. I don’t think it was Hoftsteder but some great American historian wrote of ‘folkways’ and the stagnant pace of change of mentality versus objective reality.
