I remember once meeting this couple who were made up of a 6’ tall, very muscular, full brown hair and perfect white teeth husband and an overweight, schlumpy wide. The DH modeled and acted for a while, the wife worked and took care of the children. One day I overheard her talking about how she had just gotten gastric bypass surgery for weight loss (they looked to be in their early 30s) and I thought it must be very difficult being married to a man who can literally earn money on his looks.

Years ago I had an overweight acquaintance -- for some odd reason she would announce her size to everyone, which was 16 --with average looks at best whose boyfriend was a model. This was Chicago though -- not NYC level stuff. She didn't even have much money, she was a uni admin.

If a man is a 10 and you ask him he will tell you he is an 8. If you tell him he is a 9 he will be super happy

If a woman is a 5 and you tell her she is an 8 she will insult you. She thinks she is no less than a 10.

Women perhaps because they spend so much time on their appearance are more confident than men. A fat woman will think the attractive man should actually be lucky to have her. Haven't you heard women say they are the prize in the relationship?

As a result, White men are so traumatized that when they meet even an average Asian women who does even the normal care and feeding of them, they fall head over heels in love, as they are so starved for caring and attention.

My mom isn’t bad looking but my dad has always been the better looking one. And everyone adores him. But he’s besotted with my mom and always has been. They celebrated their 57th anniversary last week!

She’s always joked that if she dies first, we’ll need a bouncer at her funeral to keep women off my dad lol.

I'm middle aged. Solely looking at other middle-aged couples, who have probably been together for many years, I would say that the handsome man/less handsome woman combo is much rarer than the reverse, just because women generally face more pressure to conform to societal beauty standards than men.

The men I know who are extremely attractive compared to their wives are blessed with good genes. I'm thinking of one in particular. He's very active with a great metabolism, so he's not overweight. He's tall, and he's kept a thick mane of wavy hair that's turning grey at the temples. His wife has gained weight over the years and looks completely average. She won the lottery, because he appears to be a loyal spouse

For the handsome woman/less handsome man combo, the women either have good genes and it doesn't take a lot of effort on their part to look like that, or they're slaving away with exercise and lasers and Botox and salon sessions and judiciously-cut clothes... and their husbands have put on weight and are in various stages of balding.

Middle age is interesting like that.

I know a few couples like this and the women have stellar personalities. After talking to them for ten minutes I can see exactly why the husband chose them. They often have really attractive kids, too.
