What kind of birthday cake do you like for yourself?

I'm always disappointed in my birthday cake-every year, my family asks me what I want. I tell them, then either my daughter proceeds to bake me what SHE wants or my husband buys me what he thinks I's like even better than what I already told him I wanted.

This year, I'm buying what I want ahead of time (one of the passionfruit cakes from Les Delices).

Homemade Tres leches w/fresh strawberries.

I haven't gotten a cake since my kids moved out when I was in my 40s (can't eat a cake by myself and DH isnt a cake eater) but I'm partial to tiramisu or something with chocolate overload.

I usually just go out for dinner and order dessert on my bday now - and will usually pick pie over cake.

I did tell DH I wanted a small ice cream cake for my birthday last month, but I think he thought I was kidding lol.

DH and DS make me a carrot cake with extra cream cheese frosting. DS and I make DH an ice cream cake (this past year the two flavors were heath bar and m&m cookie dough)

I absolutely get a birthday cake every year...it wouldn't feel like a birthday without cake.

My favorite is chocolate with white icing.

Go buy yourself a slice of cake!

I don’t get a full cake, but a slice of tiramisu is a huge birthday treat.

Smetanik, my MIL’s specialty.

My daughter asked me this question and I literally couldn't give an answer because I'm too much of a people pleaser. Too paralyzed by the thought that what I said might not be (1) easy for my family to get and (2) something they would enjoy eating. Sucks to suck!

I ended up saying cookies and cream because I know that's something they like. So I think that's my answer - whatever my family won't make me feel bad about!

Georgetown Cupcake. Over all these years I still think they are the BEST.

I make birthday cakes. It’s not difficult, tastes better and it’s a nice way to mark a special occasion. I do not make my own bday cake. I like to go out to dinner and order from the desert menu!

It varies based on what I've had recently. Sometimes chocolate, sometimes lemon, sometimes I go crazy and ask for a fruit tart. Also my DH's birthday is right before mine so I normally pick something different than he picks.

It's not even cake, it is basically like eating a zucchini loaf gussied up with the most deceptive frosting on the planet: cream cheese frosting. Something that looks sweet should not taste so SOUR and no cake should have that much SPICE in it!

And yes, the only decent birthday cake is yellow or white cake with peanut butter frosting.

Lol I love carrot cake and I also love just regular spice cake. I love ginger and nutmeg and all the carrot cake spices. And the whole point of the cream cheese frosting is that the tanginess complements the spice of the cake perfectly. I also love the flavor of the carrots in the cake.

There is tons of sugar in most carrot cakes (incuding the frosting) so your comment is making me think you've only ever had really bad carrot cake. Was it gluten free?

I make myself a five layer funfetti cake with mini pans. Buttercream frosting and ton of rainbow sprinkles on top.

This makes me so happy!

Speak for yourself! I think baking is impossible and my cakes always taste like crap.
