I don't always get a cake but my favorite two kinds are carrot cake with cream cheese frosting or cheesecake. I love chocolate but so does the rest of my family so I rarely ask for chocolate cake on my birthday because it's my chance to get one of the non-chocolate desserts I love.

Sometimes I will make a birthday cake for myself (if that sounds fun to me). Sometimes if we are doing a home celebration DH and the kids will make it. And sometimes we are traveling or going out in which case I might ask or just go buy some cupcakes. I wish I could find someone who made little individual cheesecakes for this! Probably cheesecake factory does that actually -- I should look into it.

Who are these carrot cake devotees?? Why??? It's not even cake, it is basically like eating a zucchini loaf gussied up with the most deceptive frosting on the planet: cream cheese frosting. Something that looks sweet should not taste so SOUR and no cake should have that much SPICE in it!

And yes, the only decent birthday cake is yellow or white cake with peanut butter frosting.
