What kind of birthday cake do you like for yourself?

These cakes all sound hideous.

This comment is basically DCUM troll bingo. Congrats!

But I like ice cream cake. I guess I'm a child.

Ice cream cake from Dairy Queen is a classic for all ages.

I agree! My birthday is in August, and since my Cake List project, no one wants to bake cake for me because they all assume (wrongly) that I’ll judge theirs negatively. But I liked the ice cream cakes from when I was a kid, even. How do you beat that fudgey layer?

Happy Birthday to you, too.

I like the Whole Foods Berry Chantilly cake.

Me too! That's my preferred birthday dessert (plus one for breakfast). My birthday is in October so pumpkin spice is at least one of them.

I'm not a big sweets person and rarely eat them (I'm not a DCUM food neurotic! Just would rather have a few glasses of wine and the cheese and charcuterie board as a salty/fatty taste preference) but I do occasionally like some carrot cake and I have a soft spot for strawberry shortcake so DH tends to get me one of those two for birthdays.

Carrot cake. Cream cheese frosting with some lemon in it.

I feel I am constantly disappointed when I buy an expensive bakery cake. I do love baked and wired but they are just too far with bad parking. So I usually stick to cheesecake which I love. The Berry chantilly cake from Whole Foods is consistently good. Or randomly giant’s fruit tart. I am usually pretty happy with one of those. I did get a Swedish princess cake a couple years ago and it was absolutely delicious. But there is one person who makes them in the DMV area now and it costs like $150.

I feel seen by this thread! I asked for carrot cake this year but also love Les delices bakery! I am in Rockville so not too far for me. Do you guys come from all over for your cake or are there a bunch of us from Rockville on here?

But you forget the perfect DCUM dessert is a delicious pear with a small glass of port!
