Catholicism has become official US Religion

Anonymous
If these "Catholics" actually followed the core teaching of Christ, of taking care of the sick, the poor, the elderly, taking in refugees, looking after the outcasts, viewing a greedy rich man getting into heaven as likely as a camel passing through the eye of a needle, I wouldn't be so concerned.

I grew up Catholic overseas. I can barely recognize conservative Catholics here in the US and the warped views they have - and how they reject and turn their backs on those core Christian teachings as testified to us by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the four Gospels that make up the central tenets in the New Testament.

When people try to impose their religious beliefs on to others, there could be a backlash.

+1. It is not hatred of Catholics. It is hatred of the govt imposing catholic beliefs on us all and our kids. Respect to Catholic beliefs as long as those beliefs are not forced on others.

Many other religions have a culture of service, without the dogma.

It seems to me that Evangelicals got into bed with Catholics over the pro-life issue. However, they did not fully understand the Catholic view of life begins at conception.

They needed the Catholics to win. Catholics value education and intellectual precision…whether or not you agree with their conclusions is a different issue.

The Catholic carefully laid the groundwork. They had the education, professional networks , and the family ties to become supremely influential. Collectively they valued becoming judges, politicians or political influencers.

Look at the Supreme Court 5 of 7 are Catholic, or raised Catholic:

John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Sonia Sotomayor, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett -- are Catholic. Neil Gorsuch is Episcopalian but raised Catholic. Elena Kagan is Jewish.

I haven’t even gotten into the religion of all of the political operatives helping Trump. Kelleyanne Conway is still integral to name one.

It’s not hard to see that if Trump gets reelected, we should probably consider the Untied States may become officially Catholic in several years.

What a ridiculous, incoherent rant.

And to think that the Ku Klux Klan hated Catholics as much as they hated blacks in the 1920s.

That is horrible and no one is hating Catholics. love catholics and hate overturning Roe. That was forcing catholic beliefs on everyone and that disaster deserves forceful push back until it is reversed.

You speak for only a few.

Look, I was born and raised Catholic and went to Catholic schools from k through college. I do not practice Catholicism any more though.

You are vastly off the mark. The Looney toons who do things like take the Bible literally are protestant religions. Catholicism doesn't teach at all that the Bible is supposed to be taken literally. While the Catholic church doesn't support abortion or contraception, they still offered things like condoms in the campus health center and even had LBTGQ groups for students on campus. Why don't you compare a Catholic university to a school like Brigham Young, lol.

The only thing that really reminded you that you were going to a Catholic university was that there were small crosses in every classroom and there was a requirement for a semester of theology. That's about it. Actually, I like that theology class a lot.

Christian Fundamentalists are almost always overwhelmingly protestant. Modern Catholicism doesn't teach fundamentalism at all.

Huh?

No IVF, no to some birth control, no to abortion.....the Catholics totally get in your business about what is and not ok. Probably half or more of all Catholics pay no attention but those are the official teachings.

Way more than half. Birth control is used by all religions, 99% of Catholics and mainstream Protestants use BC. . Non religious women have the most abortions followed by Catholic women.

So many real political issues to discuss an OP chooses to post this nonsense. Idiotic.

Politicians are imposing their moral values on the rest of us. It isn't nonsense.

Biden isn’t. Ted Kennedy didn’t. Pelosi doesn’t of the top of my head, there’s a lot more. I think this is more a regional thing. Southern and some Midwest states have politicians that impose their rigid “values”.

DP: I disagree. I think most Catholics are in line with this. Just not a few on the Supreme Court. The ultra conservative branch is not that big.

And it is because the Church advises on what is sinful and how one should lead their life, and also acknowledges that we are all sinners and that our sins are between us and God. That SHOULD have nothing whatsoever to do with the policies and laws of the U.S. government.

PS (there is literally no way to prove your alleged statistics -- no one is offering up what religion they are when getting an abortion).

And in Alabama it isn't Catholics; there are hardly any in the state, which is 80% Protestant, half of which are evangelical.

Anonymous wrote:You should be worried about both. As far as the Supreme Court justices, all of the conservative Catholic judges are on the Court because they were handpicked by Leonard Leo, an Opus Dei affiliated fundraiser who has had effective control over the selection of justices under recent Republican presidents. These Catholic justices were selected for their hard core religious views as well as for their generally right wing political views and they will definitely break down the wall between church and state. Sotomoyer is Catholic, but not one of these and a Democratic appointee.

Most Catholics do not even consider Opus Dei to be Catholic.

+1

Thanks God we got a Jesuit as Pope.

Still against contraception, anti choice, ant IVF, called surrogacy "despicable", firm on no women in the priesthood, failed to deliver on clerical abuse reforms.

20 years ago I would have welcomed some progress. In 2024, it's not enough to give blessings of a nonspecific nature to gay couples.

As church policy, which is his role; not US political policy.

Joes Biden is our second catholic president, OP. I think you can relax.
