Every religion and just about every school in the country develops "a culture of service" - the Catholics are hardly unique in this.

I think it reflects the Catholic focus on education. There’s really no other group with an educational system that parallels the public system and offers such a strong alternative.

Have you heard of Chrsitmas? Easter?

Yep, they’re both religions.

What in the bloody hell are you talking about?

Look, I was born and raised Catholic and went to Catholic schools from k through college. I do not practice Catholicism any more though.

You are vastly off the mark. The Looney toons who do things like take the Bible literally are protestant religions. Catholicism doesn't teach at all that the Bible is supposed to be taken literally. While the Catholic church doesn't support abortion or contraception, they still offered things like condoms in the campus health center and even had LBTGQ groups for students on campus. Why don't you compare a Catholic university to a school like Brigham Young, lol.

The only thing that really reminded you that you were going to a Catholic university was that there were small crosses in every classroom and there was a requirement for a semester of theology. That's about it. Actually, I like that theology class a lot.

Christian Fundamentalists are almost always overwhelmingly protestant. Modern Catholicism doesn't teach fundamentalism at all.

Huh?

No IVF, no to some birth control, no to abortion.....the Catholics totally get in your business about what is and not ok. Probably half or more of all Catholics pay no attention but those are the official teachings.

IVF issues are tipping the scales more toward Biden. If he actually does something about the border and crime, he can secure a victory. No one is picking someone with huge debts he cannot pay. That’s a dagger in the heart of his campaign.

Still having a hard time seeing either Trump or Biden making it to November whether they are nominated or not. It’s really Harris vs whoever Trump picks.

Crime is riding lows nationally. It is just DC that it is particularly bad.

I was thinking of the crimes associated with immigration: people crossing illegally, employers hiring illegally, immigrants who commit violent crimes who aren’t deported, etc.

So many real political issues to discuss an OP chooses to post this nonsense. Idiotic.

Politicians are imposing their moral values on the rest of us. It isn't nonsense.

maybe the difference is that Catholics honor a vow of poverty. everybody else wants to make more money than a supreme court justice (should make... discounting the kind of thing Thomas does).

Yes, and I live where the public school system is so terrible anyone who can sends their kids to Catholic schools. Even those who financially struggle. The Church heavily subsidizes their tuition. The state legislature wants to kill off public schools.

I’m Catholic too. And I have attended a church and my child attended a Catholic school. This is all 100% in line with what they believe.

You might have been raised in a more liberal Catholic Church but that is unusual. That or you were Creasters?

I can’t imagine a Catholic college handing out condoms. Or only having 1 semester of theology. You must have attended a Catholic-founded university that stepped away from Catholicism.

So your experience is very different from mine. And no, Catholics don’t read the Bible particularly. They read a lot on theology but they don’t memorize the Bible like Protestants and Evangelicals.

Of course it is. It is literally the function of government to impose laws on us. Some countries ban firearms, others don’t, it’s based on values.

You don’t agree with some laws instituted via the democratic process so decided to make up a vast Catholic conspiracy. At the same time our constitution protects freedom of religion. You are paranoid and delusional.

American Catholics have mostly gone woke.

If most of the people practicing a religion don't care about theoretical teachings of said religion, don't agree with those teachings, and don't vote according to those teachings, and in fact vote against those teachings, then how does it even make sense for you to accuse Catholics as a whole of being some big bad group trying to hijack the country?

The GOP base is evangelical. They don’t think much of Catholics.

In no way is any religion about to become “official” in the US. Though if Trump wins, I wouldn’t put it past his minions to undo that basic foundation of our country too.

It seems to me that Evangelicals got into bed with Catholics over the pro-life issue. However, they did not fully understand the Catholic view of life begins at conception.

They needed the Catholics to win. Catholics value education and intellectual precision…whether or not you agree with their conclusions is a different issue.

The Catholic carefully laid the groundwork. They had the education, professional networks , and the family ties to become supremely influential. Collectively they valued becoming judges, politicians or political influencers.

Look at the Supreme Court 5 of 7 are Catholic, or raised Catholic:

John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Sonia Sotomayor, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett -- are Catholic. Neil Gorsuch is Episcopalian but raised Catholic. Elena Kagan is Jewish.

I haven’t even gotten into the religion of all of the political operatives helping Trump. Kelleyanne Conway is still integral to name one.

It’s not hard to see that if Trump gets reelected, we should probably consider the Untied States may become officially Catholic in several years.

There are nine people on the Supreme Court, not seven.
