WHY is it necessary to post this?

To reassure anxious students and parents during this stressful time. It definitely needs to be said - the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor.

Any positive shred of reassurance you may have intended is dwarfed by kicking some when they are down from rejections or deferrals.

This! Some people are SUCH a$$holes.
My kid is ecstatic that she was accepted to MSU. Wanna tell me about their 88% acceptance rate?? C’mon, PPP, I know you do

3.8, 1250 SAT, 4 year athlete, camp counselor for 2 seasons, PT job since 10th grade.

Oh well.

Sorry for your DC especially with the admirable PT work. Consider a letter of interest later with any good updates. Are there other schools they are excited about?

Fact.

Correct. The fact is both of you are a$$holes.

Well done.

Wishing all of you who are checking the portal today success.

Congratulations to your DC!

Congrats! A top choice for my son in a couple of years. I have a feeling that now that it is nationally ranked the admissions will only get harder (like VT).

The odds are in your favor if you have a 3.8 or higher, but I’m hearing of a lot of kids with below a 3.8 who have gotten deferred or rejected.

Congrats, OP!! These seem like strong, high stats to me. JMU has an 86% acceptance rate…am I missing something? Not from the DCVM area. Is it much harder to get in now?

Yes, it is much harder to get in now.

Schools get "hot" real quick nowadays. With the Gameday event and basketball winning we were very afraid this could be JMU's year.

I remember JMU being very hot 30 years ago when I was applying.

It had a much lower acceptance rate 30 years ago.

Because the pp is one of these insecure people who can only make themselves feel a little better by tearing others down. It's a character flaw.

It is not tearing other people down to note that JMU has a very high acceptance rate. The purpose of the college forum is to provide factually accurate information.

But you still have to have a fairly high GPA to get in.

Admitted! Maryland girl with 4.0 uw and 1410 SAT, 3 APs, and good arts background. She’s hoping for Honors college.

Honors college is great just for the early registration perk. Also, the honors dorm is one of the newest buildings.

JMU used to be much more selective. They said it stood for Just Missed UVA. It’s obviously not like that anymore.

Same - I remember Virginia Tech being a safety for JMU, which at the time had an acceptance rate around 35% (early 90s). Kids who did not get into UVA or William & Mary, went to JMU; and if they didn't get into JMU, then Virginia Tech.
