This is OP. I have a child away in college and can't/won't turn off notifications, just incase. I will block the number they called from this morning.
I hope principal interns also understand that the emails, texts and phone calls were enough. We didn't need to jump on Remind and get that message out.there again.

So set your kid as a favorite and accept calls from favorites. Or set the setting so that if someone calls twice in five minutes it notifies you.

DP. My kid’s magnet bus stop is almost 2 miles from our house. I don’t make her walk it in the morning and wouldn’t be comfortable with her riding her bike on a highway in the dark. She’s not old enough to drive yet, so I drive her to the bus stop. Most of the kids are driven to the bus stop by a parent.

This doesn't work if you have kids away at college, young adults living on their own or elderly parents.
The point of emergencies is you don't know WHO would be calling to alert you. It might be a neighbor, police, dorm RA, president of the college, girlfriend, or a stranger who found their car in a ditch.
School delay isn't an emergency and shouldn't be blasted out at 5 am when it was texted, posted and emailed.

There is a setting on iPhone to allow numbers blocked during iPhone to ring when more than 2 calls. I have a kid at college and an elderly parent. If it's an emergency I assume whoever is trying would call more than once.

They put the announcement on their website right before 5:30 -- I was awake at 5:15 and kept checking, and I got an Alert MCPS email at 5:27. But the text came a bit later.

Given that they made the decision pretty late, they probably decided to use every means possible to reach families--they don't usually call for delays/closures.
