This is OP. I have a child away in college and can't/won't turn off notifications, just incase. I will block the number they called from this morning.
I hope principal interns also understand that the emails, texts and phone calls were enough. We didn't need to jump on Remind and get that message out.there again.

Blocking the number they called from means you won’t get other critical notifications or direct calls, assuming this is the school’s main number. This is highly irresponsible to do as a parent.

Op again. I have 1 other call from them in April of last year. I'm not too worried about missing "critical calls" from mcps LoL.

For all the others on this thread- we recieved texts, emails and app messages at the same time as the phone call. Phone calls should be reserved for emergencies like a school shooting. A simple delay should not ring your cell phone at 5 : 40 in the morning.
If someone's grandmother hasn't signed up for the texts, the emails, can't read twitter or doesn't know how to work the app that's not my problem.

I think this is a you problem. You have very concrete ideas on when a phone call is warranted.

I would think most DCUM strivers would be awake by then.

OP has a valid complaint here. They don’t usually call for weather delays. I haven’t signed up for phone calls for weather delays and don’t usually receive them. This time my home, cell and work phone rang simultaneously as did my husband and son’s. Fortunately all cells were on do not disturb so I don’t have any major complaints except that this isn’t the usual protocol.

No. OP is an idiot.

I appreciated the texts/calks!

But then again, I know how to use my phone and my phone was set on do not disturb until my regular alarm went off at 7am. I saw the text banner that there was a two hour delay and went back to sleep. Well, I tried to go back to sleep — within 5 minutes the kids were running in screaming “It’s snowing!” (But I can’t really blame MCPS for that lol)

And yet you want to make it every one else’s problem that you don’t know how to use a cell phone.

It’s 2023.

Maybe you can sign up for a technology class at the senior center?

I was woken up by my landline phone's voicemail.

Oh well. This is why I have it. For important things.

Thanks for sharing that funny sequence of things. My kids are out of the house and your story took me right back to when that used to happen and kids would be suited up to play outside in the .25 inches of snow while I was barely awake.😁

Thank you also for the perspective of “I can’t really blame MCPS.” I feel like society is in a blame cycle - blame systems for any inconvenience not recognizing the various and competing demands on our community systems. Your joke made the point nicely! Thank you.

I just checked on “everbridge” and confirmed that I am signed up for email and text only. Why did I get phone calls as well? Anyone know how I can change this?
Anonymous
WTF, OP. Learn to use your phone settings or change your notification settings with MCPS.

You are the moron here, OP.

Hi.

Newsflash: The school district serves 160,000 families. You might prefer email or texts. Other people ignore or skip that unless they get a phone call. The school has to cater to EVERYONE and with something as urgent as a school delay, the school needs to put that communication out in as many channels as possible. Otherwise, someone, somewhere will claim they "didn't know" about the two-hour delay. The fact that you can't wrap your feeble mind around this concept or the fact that the school system is not built around only you and your family's preferences is telling.

Do better.

I keep my phone on because I have an elderly, ailing parent and am dreading a late night call that they are in the hospital or worse....

How do I turn off these calls from MCPS?

NP here. I get that, but in that case they should actually take note of your preferences and if you’ve not indicated you want calls (as in my case) you should NOT get them.

Why are some of you so nasty? There are so many devices and methods, and sometimes they don’t work as we think. There are better ways to share your thoughts.
