With there being 4a, 5a, and 6a in Virginia (and Loudoun)- I would say no, HS division doesn't matter. I have no stats to back this up, but I would say Riverside (5) and Dominion (4) are sending more kids in the past few years then many 6 schools in Loco or FFX.

They have more of an opportunity to be "seen" at club then at HS, as the HS and college season overlap. The HC at a college is not going to leave his team and travel to LoCo to look at a kid in HS mid-season. Doubtful they are just going to come across your kid at a recruiting event either. You need to let them know you are out there and where you will be and then they will take a look, if they have time. Maybe your kid plays #1 attack and they are really there to look at the top 10 D-Poles and their Freshman class had 5 top tier attackmen, your #1 attack moves down the priority list. Your needs are not their needs! However, if your kid is the next LeBron of lacrosse, they might. I would suspect that if he was, they would already know that though.

I am worried about Loudoun Lacrosse in a few more years. It seems that fewer kids are playing lacrosse or trying it out which means less competition. Unless you are in the area of a few schools.

I believe this is a fair observation and share the same concern. Loudoun is a soccer first county so with lacrosse and soccer being Spring sports it’s tough to field full and consistent lacrosse teams.

The 2022-23 classes in Loudoun were the last really strong ones on the girls side. Riverside had been dominant in previous years and last season overachieved when they upset the #1 seed in the region to make the state tournament. Dominion has been dominant in 4A winning multiple state championships. Both schools will come back to the pack this year.

There are some very talented individual players in the county, but in general the talent will be down and teams will be no where near as competitive as the Riverside and Dominion teams of the past.

Hopefully Loudoun can rebuild the youth programs on the girls side. It all starts here.

Very few if any kids choosing to play soccer over lacrosse. They are a different set of kids. The issue is that they open new HS’s every year and split the teams up. Twice as many HS programs than just 8 years ago plus add PVI to the mix.

For our Loudoun school kids having to choose between lacrosse and soccer was an issue. Especially in making sure the school had numbers to field both varsity and JV teams. But do agree the number of schools has played a factor as well. And as the public teams get weaker those players serious about lacrosse will look to attend private schools, only compounding the problem.

This all depends on what schools you are talking about. Riverside for example is not losing players to private schools, why is that? I was told by a parent whose son plays there that they have 70+ try out every year.

Girls lacrosse in Loudoun is a different story. Numbers playing seem to get smaller each year.

That’s because no one in their right mind would put their child and a MCPS school

I hear Riverside isn't playing in the VEL or the Fall Brawl. Thoughts?

Curious if Virginia would ever make soccer a fall sport? Not sure what the norm is but MD plays soccer in the fall and then many play lacrosse in the Spring.

In my experience, the norm is that it's a fall sport (colleges and many other states play in the fall). It would be great if VA made the switch -- I don't understand why they have it as a spring sport.

If they chose to play in the NHSLS and NL league then it is a good move. If they are not doing any fall events that might not be a good move.

Perhaps it's "urban legend", but as I wondered the same when I first moved to NoVa from the beautiful "Soccer is a Fall Sport" part of the country, I was told that many years ago the HS soccer coaches were fed up with football getting the Friday night lights field time (and maybe practice time too?) - so they voted to move it to spring, where there was no such competition.

I'm the PP you quoted and that's pretty much what I suspected. I would not at all be surprised if that's why.

Private schools still play soccer in the Fall as the sport was intended (Its played in the fall in college).

Please move this to the soccer thread. The .001% of lacrosse players who also play soccer already understand.

A player told me the JV is playing VEL and Fall Brawl. The Varsity is playing the St. John's Atlantic Coast Showcase and the Turkey Shootout. With those events, lifting and green days, sounds like a pretty solid fall plan. What say you?

Field space and refs. Football east most of the turf time and field hockey gets the scraps

That has nothing to do with it at all. Please don't post things that you have no clue about. It a VHSL decision to play Soccer in the spring. I was probably a decision made in the 70's and has never been revisited or re thought. If states like Pennsylvania can play soccer in the fall, when football in that state is way bigger/better then it is here in VA, then maybe the VHSL should re look at they way things are structured.

Why is someone policing everything said on this thread and trying to get it moved.....are you new here? You should be happy the thread is active.

Riverside did post their schedule. Very difficult early test for the LOCO Rams. I could easily see them going 2-6 to start (to include scrimmages). Why would they set themselves for that? Dosnt make much sense....
