This plus Hollister and Gap/Old Navy. Some Lululemon and Athleta sprinkled in due to high cost. Yes crocs are popular, but for sneakers it’s usually Nike Blazers or AirMax270. Also the plastic Birkenstocks with socks, don’t ask me why. |
+1. We can’t take this person seriously. What school does best dressed awards nowadays? She must be 80 with a 50 year old daughter. |
First, I didn’t bring it up until someone rudely went on about how I must have looked back then. I answered. And the above poster is doing something that people do here. If it doesn’t happen in their tiny area of the country it doesn’t happen. Provincial thinking. Yes, schools still do it, probably not as many, but it’s still a thing. |
No granny, you’re in the minority on this one. Just because your small town did best dressed lists 70 years ago doesn’t mean that happens anywhere currently. And I think you don’t understand the meaning of provincial. |
Birkenstocks are still the go to sandals for the Lesbian crowd. Some of the old hippies and deadheads too. Crocs are good for working people because all you have to do is wipe them down. sneakers that are comfortable should be ideal for middle school. |
Many kids at our affluent MS wear birks! Metallic, tan, and even those new rubber/plastic ones. |
Yep and Crocs too. Hetero, wealthy kids. PP is grossly misinformed. She's probably the "best-dressed granny" poster. |
They are comfortable! There’s a reason they’ve been around forever. Well made, sensible and well priced. I’m not sure what being at an affluent middle school has to do with anything. |
Because PP tried to claim that all these brands are for hippies and "working people." Like she's Violet Crawley and we need to explain what a "week end" is. |
This is what is popular at our middle school. DD and her friends are at Goodwill at least once a week looking for finds--t-shirts, hoodies, ripped jeans are their main wardrobe staples. Sometimes skirts or crop tops thrown into the mix. All with crocs or converse. |
Hospital workers, nurses, doctors, hairdressers, chefs use crocs for comfort and easy clean up, sounds like a smart choice. |
I agree with those that said to wait until DD is in school before doing a lot of shopping. My rising 8th grader mostly shops at Hollister and PacSun for bottoms, because that’s where she can find clothes that fit (she’s small and will stay that way). Nike everything is preferred over other athletic brands - shorts, pullovers, hoodies, and shoes. Jordans and Converse for shoes. And yes, to Crocs (with socks, even!). Thrifting is in, so if you don’t want to spend a ton of money on clothes, that’s a good way to do it.
That said, I have volunteered in DD’s school a lot, and I have seen just about everything being worn. Jeans and Ts, Ts and leggings, tiny tops and cargos, etc. DD’s friend group doesn’t seem to have anything like a uniform. |
![]() I see what you're trying to do. However teens tend to follow the trends with their peers. That's why crocs are having a moment. Then they will go into the trash afterwards. |
Boys, too. And adults. Crocs are having a Renaissance. |
It’s more than a moment. It’s been two years at least. |
