What brands are cool among middle school girls?

Yes crocs are popular, but for sneakers it’s usually Nike Blazers or AirMax270. Also the plastic Birkenstocks with socks, don’t ask me why.

I have three kids with three distinct styles of dress. Their favorite stores are not the same.

One suggestion - There is nothing cool about $40 plastic shoes called crocs. Buy some decent footwear.

Every middle school girl I know is currently wearing crocs everywhere. We are in an UMC neighborhood.

And they look ugly. They have ugly plastic on their feet. And I don’t believe every girl is wearing crocs. There is probably a small group of girls who love fashion and refuse to buy something ugly just to fit in. The future leaders of America! Or at least during fashion weeks.

I’d love to see pictures of you and your fashion choices when you were 11-14, I’m sure you looked fabulous As the parent of 2 MS girls, not *everyone* wears crocs but the vast majority do, and they probably think you wear ugly clothes too.

Best dressed in high school. My daughter was also best dressed in middle school and high school (they actually did middle school awards). I don’t remember anything item of clothing that everyone wore in school, there was a lot of variety. Neither of us went into any trends.

There have been posts that said everyone wore crocs. I find that hard to believe and hopefully these girls new to middle school will find clothes that make them happy, not a carbon copy of everyone else.

The fact that you are touting best dressed awards both for yourself and your child while referring to other children’s clothing as ugly tells me all I need to know about who you are as a person.

+1. We can’t take this person seriously. What school does best dressed awards nowadays? She must be 80 with a 50 year old daughter.

Whoa! What schools in this day and age give awards for best dressed? Even mildly progressive public schools wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot poll because it's essentially an award for having parents who have money and are generous with it. That's as bad as these asinine "kindness" awards that somehow always go to mean kids. Sorry for the derail.

First, I didn’t bring it up until someone rudely went on about how I must have looked back then. I answered.

And the above poster is doing something that people do here. If it doesn’t happen in their tiny area of the country it doesn’t happen. Provincial thinking. Yes, schools still do it, probably not as many, but it’s still a thing.

No granny, you’re in the minority on this one. Just because your small town did best dressed lists 70 years ago doesn’t mean that happens anywhere currently. And I think you don’t understand the meaning of provincial.

Birkenstocks are still the go to sandals for the Lesbian crowd. Some of the old hippies and deadheads too. Crocs are good for working people because all you have to do is wipe them down. sneakers that are comfortable should be ideal for middle school.

Many kids at our affluent MS wear birks! Metallic, tan, and even those new rubber/plastic ones.

Yep and Crocs too. Hetero, wealthy kids. PP is grossly misinformed. She's probably the "best-dressed granny" poster.

They are comfortable! There’s a reason they’ve been around forever. Well made, sensible and well priced.
I’m not sure what being at an affluent middle school has to do with anything.

Because PP tried to claim that all these brands are for hippies and "working people." Like she's Violet Crawley and we need to explain what a "week end" is.

This is what is popular at our middle school. DD and her friends are at Goodwill at least once a week looking for finds--t-shirts, hoodies, ripped jeans are their main wardrobe staples. Sometimes skirts or crop tops thrown into the mix. All with crocs or converse.

Hospital workers, nurses, doctors, hairdressers, chefs use crocs for comfort and easy clean up, sounds like a smart choice.

I agree with those that said to wait until DD is in school before doing a lot of shopping. My rising 8th grader mostly shops at Hollister and PacSun for bottoms, because that’s where she can find clothes that fit (she’s small and will stay that way). Nike everything is preferred over other athletic brands - shorts, pullovers, hoodies, and shoes. Jordans and Converse for shoes. And yes, to Crocs (with socks, even!). Thrifting is in, so if you don’t want to spend a ton of money on clothes, that’s a good way to do it.

That said, I have volunteered in DD’s school a lot, and I have seen just about everything being worn. Jeans and Ts, Ts and leggings, tiny tops and cargos, etc. DD’s friend group doesn’t seem to have anything like a uniform.

I see what you're trying to do.
However teens tend to follow the trends with their peers. That's why crocs are having a moment. Then they will go into the trash afterwards.

Boys, too. And adults. Crocs are having a Renaissance.

It’s more than a moment. It’s been two years at least.
