It was considered a Top 50 school in the 90s It moved into the national rankings in USNWR while I was there (from the regional list) I think at #25 it’s first year. The school has grown from 3600 students to somewhere in the 5s, so it has gotten larger in the 25 years since I graduated. I loved the campus-to each their own. I stepped on campus and it immediately felt like my place. |
Sounds like it’s not for you and your kid but much of what you said here is misleading. The sports facilities, i.e. Student gym (which is brand new and gorgeous, nicest we saw anywhere including USC) and team training facilities are on the main campus, the football stadium is a short walk or, for those that are lazy, a shuttle ride away (not uncommon). The research labs and medical school are indeed in a brand new facility that is a short shuttle ride away, 10 minutes from the main quad. My premed kid is excited about these state of the art facilities and the opportunity to work on research with medical school faculty, but sounds like not a match for your kid. It’s true that Wake moved to this campus in the 1950s, so no buildings are older than that, but many are much newer, including the dorms. The architecture you call “fake southern” is known as Georgian and is common to many east coast universities. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Wake usually does pretty well in prettiest campus rankings. https://www.wunc.org/arts-culture/2017-03-22/wake-forest-u-named-most-beautiful-campus-in-nc |
You seem like a peach (and not the Georgia variety). Enjoy College Park. |

Yes, the original campus is in the actual town of wake forest.
The Reynolds family gave the land to the school and asked that they move the school. The name stayed the same, though. |
We toured this week as well. Ehh |
Incorrect. Most do not consider it better than Tulane. In fact, most have never heard of Wake Forest. |
+3 Not sure of the appeal. Kid thought the town seemed boring and the kids generic. Not a fan. |
My DC was accepted to Wake Forest and chose Tulane. The career outcomes will be the same for business. The difference is definitely the vibe of the college. Tulane is filled with rich, super smart, friendly kids. Wake is filled with rich, super smart, competitive kids. You can feel it when you walk around and talk to students and professors. My DC also loved the focus on service at Tulane. Both are great schools. |
We rarely left campus - the town itself was not all that important. |
| DS did not fall in love with Wake. Our tour sandwiched it between Duke and Davidson; both schools appealed to DS much more than Wake. We liked the Wake campus but did get a conservative vibe. With that said, we all loved the DC campus and the Poli Sci curriculum. |
Wish they had this while I was there. Glad they do now! As of last year, they still called it "Politics" not Poli Sci. It was a quirky little thing, but they insisted that it wasn't a Science. I mean, they're not wrong. |
| no need to bash Wake. Some have not heard of Tulane either and they are totally two different vibes. |
Are they doubting the existence of social sciences? That’s concerning. |

Did you take your meds this morning?

| How does the greek system run if no sorority/fraternity houses? What are football games like? Wondering if they have tailgates and if students get tickets together? |
