Occasional dinners out, a movie here and there, trip to the mall or big box store (superK at the time), concert at the local dive bar/club. Winston was not a draw for anyone

20 year ago yea, but Winston Salem has improved significantly over the past 10 years.

That’s fair - I graduated in the late 90s. Haven’t been back much since then. I have a couple friends whose kids have attended or are attending. I do understand things change. The campus and student body have grown. Times change. But I still doubt many choose it for the city more than the campus itself.

I agree with that, the campus is beautiful. But today’s undergrads chose to spend more time in downtown Winston than undergrads in the past did.

Wake is a no based on friend’s child’s experience there. He said students casually used the n word and were mainly white/wealthy/narrow minded. He ended up transferring.

My child goes there and has never experienced anything remotely like that. About a third of the kids we know locally attending Wake are black, I know this is not representative of Wake as a whole but we are from Baltimore. They like the school and none are transferring. My own child is extremely liberal and loves Wake.
