I agree. The only time that I hear this word is from other African-Americans. |
Omg I just laughed so hard! Thanks for that. I needed it today. |
And you’re absolutely positively certain that your particular kids will never, ever, under any circumstances at all —even as unsupervised adolescents hanging out with peers — use “language that could be offensive to others”? Awesome! Since most kids test boundaries, at least occasionally, it would be great if you could teach the rest of us how it’s done. |
“When you’re white in this country, you’re taught that everything belongs to you.” I’m sorry, but Mr. Coates is pathetically delusional. If you believe him, you are to. The racism is grossly offensive here. |
+1000. |
Not at our middle school. Anyone that isn’t white or Asian says it. |
On god |

I can't stand it when people act like calling someone the n-word is the same thing as talking about the n-word theoretically. Like, don't say n-word or do you ever say n-word.
It is purposefully obtuse. Also, I think that 8 years old is too young to go to a park by yourself. Personally, I think no one should say the n word. I say no one is allowed to say the n word. But since we as a society have decided that some people can say it, it's going to be a curse word that is heard in adult spaces. Like a basketball court. |
You're missing the forest for the trees here. If you are non-black you don't ever need to interact with a stranger black child unless they are hitting your child or damaging your property. Then you can do what is necessary. But if they are just using bad language or damaging public property, do not approach and do not engage, and do not worry about what their parents let them do. Whatever values black people teach their children is their business. |
Like wild wolves? |
Seems offensive to wolves. |
This is a much more complex process of reclaiming something weaponized against one's people. It's not just a "hip hop crowd" desentizing their followers for funsies. |
You may express your opinion. But please know, that’s all it is. Many of us just aren’t interested in engaging in your racism. It’s 2023. |

My kid plays basketball after school sometimes. The 8th graders often kick them off, sometimes nicely, sometimes with threats. There was a gun threat by one recently.
I’m sorry but your kid is going to hear a lot worse. I think my son would be mortified if I did what you did. |
I hope you took the gun threat seriously. |
