It’s entirely possible the older boy was trying to taunt/trick the younger boy into saying the N word to get the younger boy in trouble. This happens at our school. The whole N word situation is so radioactive that kids are drawn to this kind of behavior. Adults need to chill out about it.
OP I would have another discussion with your son about the word, but more importantly, I would not let him go to that park alone. Sorry. |
+2 yep. Avoid at all costs. |
| I don’t think the 8th grader was black. |
| I’m shocked by the responses here. If your kid is black do you let them use the n word? I teach my kids not to use any language that could be offensive to others. |
| PP again. I find the notion that someone can use the n word because they are black to be totally ridiculous. |
It doesn’t matter what I or you think. People are out there using it. Especially once they get to middle and high school. Give your kids the tools to deal with those situations. |
You are not black, then right? Please google Ta-Nahesi Coates or something to get some more nuance around how and why many black Americans choose to use that word and white people just need to deal with it. You can’t have everything. Sorry. When you’ve fully divested from white supremacy, dismantled structural racism in this country, addressed reparations, then let’s negotiate. If y’all do that, I bet all black folks would give up the word 100%. |
This Don’t police other people’s kids. |

I totally believe this. I’ve witnessed similar exchanges and worse at our neighborhood playground/basketball court. There is definitely race related taunting and bullying that goes on.
I wouldn’t have walked back to the playground and confronted the teen for language. Not helpful. But now you know this isn’t a place your son can be without an adult near by. |
Here is the explanation https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QO15S3WC9pg |
A 9 y o called me “party pooper” on a school’s playground. The kid was using the garbage can’s lid as a toy to play with my DC. I just asked him to put it back where it belong. Another kid said mother f*ucker. I also heard a teacher saying “your are black and I’m white, so what?” to a 5-6 y o kid. I could go on and on, but I don’t want to overtake OP’s thread. |
Reparations? Lolz |
No one cares what you think!! The fact that you don’t understand something is meaningless. It just means you aren’t very bright. Jesus, as a white person, I’m finding you white people really insufferable in this thread. You don’t get to decide everything. You don’t get to police how black people speak. And no you don’t get a whiff of credit or credibility because you “teach your kids not to say anything offensive”. What the f&ck does that have to do with anything. |
Kids probably said it, but her kid didn’t run home all upset to show what a good woke family she has… |
That’s a lot of words for someone when you claim to not care what they think. You care a lot. |
