Where do "B" average Big-3 students go to college?

Anonymous
The kids with B averages still have pretty good test scores, either because they’re genetically smart or due to prepping. Plus they have strong curriculums and ECs. So they’re able to push the admissions up above a B school. I think the bottom of the class would be Syracuse, Lehigh, Indiana, UMass. Keep in mind some of the lower grades are the recruited athletes, not at Ivys but anywhere else.

I would guess you’d have better luck at SLAC than large public state schools.

Not anymore. A solid B student would be lucky to get into CU Boulder these days.

Did things change this year (2023?)
Because they were getting in last year (2022).

How do you even know since decisions aren't all out yet?

NP. This is true. My B student at a big3 with a 33 ACT was rejected from Boulder this year (2023).

Where has your kid been accepted?

Figure the average GPA is a B/B+.

Lots of B students going to good schools.

There are C students at these private high schools. They are in that college list as well.

That’s weird, our private school had a student accepted with B average and lower test scores, also 2023. What was major?

It's not the Big 3. It's being able to pay the Big Bucks.

Oh, and being male helps too, on any of these schools.

Being male might help but big bucks will not.

If you are full pay, that is absolutely a factor.

Not even admitted to Exploratory Studies? Was the GPA below 3.0?

In state with a 3.0 from a private high school and 33 ACT, CU Boulder would be a clear safety. Sounds as if CU (like other schools) just hasn't figured out how to manage yield for out of state students since apps increased under the current test optional scenario.

Wow, you sure sound bitter.

Thanks PPs who shared the lists. I think it nicely uses data to contradict the drama we see on this board about students "getting shut out." It appears these kids are landing at great schools and I wish all of them well.

It will be interesting to see how this year (2023) works out but last year seemed to work out across the board for kids at these school despite some early hiccups.

This list is STA. I would like to see it absent ALL athletic recruits, not just two that PP clearly deemed to be subpar schools (which is not true). In any event, the average GPA last year was about an 88, so a B+. Straight B is 84 or 85, and I know students in 2023 are not getting into Tulane/Wisconsin/Hamilton, or Wake Forest/Bowdoin, etc. with a B average, even with 1500 SAT/34 ACT.

Is there a major difference between 2022 and 2023 results at STA?
How do you even know since 2023 is still TBD?
