When was this? |
If it is a straight 3.0, probably not Wisconsin. |
Tulane will take kids with a straight 3.0. I know one from last year and another this year. |
It's just undergrad. You're rich. He'll be fine in life with or without a "brand name" undergrad degree. Forget his stats and start with a list of basics like location, size, subjects, interests, Division I sports teams watch, whatever gets his attention. Even if he was 3.5, there are no sure things in admissions. Most schools are flooded with applications on top of the usual opaque and contradictory internal decision dynamics. |
I don't see someone like that getting in to Hamilton/Colby these days when they are rejecting kids with 4.0 GPAs and scores in 1500s unless the big 3 hold that much weight... |
skidmore, Union, Lafayette (?), Bucknell, Muhlenburg? |
Tulane is sufficiently competitive that we thought it was out of reach for our DC who had meaningfully better stats (and did get into Hamilton). Bates was totally out of the question, as was Wisconsin.
If Hamilton took 8% why would Bates be out of question? They didn't have a lower number than that? |
A straight-up B average Big 3 student who is full pay isn't getting into any of those schools without some extraordinary hook. Hamilton took 8% of their applicants last admission cycle. Tulane is sufficiently competitive that we thought it was out of reach for our DC who had meaningfully better stats (and did get into Hamilton). Bates was totally out of the question, as was Wisconsin. Tulane ED out of reach and got into hamilton. that is not in keeping with stats at our school. |
Tulane definitely takes kids from rigorous privates with B averages ED. |
Catch up. Hamilton acceptance rate is 15%, so a B average student is not getting in. Similar cases with Bates. |
I was coming on to say the same thing. Hamilton is the toughest in the group listed to get admitted - if your kid got in there, he definitely was competitive for Tulane/Wisconsin/Bates. Your post makes no sense. |
hamilton 11% class of 2026. so yes, agree not getting in |
We aren’t talking about any B students, we are talking about kids coming from academically rigorous schools known to have grade deflation. SLACs in particular are very familiar with these schools and admit their students. People saying no way just aren’t familiar with the admission patterns from those schools. |
That could be possible but then that student could certainly get into Tulane or Wisc. |
But hamilton common data set reports 99 percent of class is from top 25 % of their high school...is that a B student? |
