Where do "B" average Big-3 students go to college?

We aren’t talking about any B students, we are talking about kids coming from academically rigorous schools known to have grade deflation. SLACs in particular are very familiar with these schools and admit their students. People saying no way just aren’t familiar with the admission patterns from those schools.

Actually, I think it’s you who are not familiar with admissions patterns in the last three years. Students with B averages and high test scores from top DC privates are definitely not getting in these schools this year - I know parents who are stressed because their smart, B students have been deferred or rejected from many schools less competitive than the ones discussed on this thread. Hopefully things will look different in 6 weeks, but even then the kids described on this thread are not getting in to Hamilton or Bates without some other hook.

Time will tell how this year works out but last year the B students at our Big3 private were admitted to Hamilton, Bates, etc. This year Tulane has taken B students in early rounds. I'm not sure about the rest.

Wow, those are ridiculously good admissions results for some lifers and average siblings. Hopefully those are all full pay families.

Are you aware that kids post their schools to SM and you able to go look at where each kid is going and make your own theories about their GPA, athletics, legacy and financial status?

OP, there may be a big difference in results between a 3.0 and a 3.4. Can you be more specific?

Are you talking about kids who applied to slacs or those trying for large public universities? Because at our private, kids are still doing quite well with slacs, not so well with the big publics who rely more on gpa formulas.

Let's assume no hook, or small hook. Full pay (no FA or scholarship needed.) Will probably write a strong essay, but not astonishingly good. What are typical target schools for this kind of student? Thank you!

Lol

Full pay is a huge hook. 😂😂

What happened to 'you are compared against other kids in your school and not across schools' or is that limited to richsplaining to public school kids why they didn't get into UVA although they had a 4.4/1600? Does that not apply to your special snowflake because they went to the magical 'big three'? Do you expect all colleges to take everyone that applies from THE 'big three'? Some sort of rich person grifty expectation, perhaps.

A 'B' is still a 'B'.

Use CollegeVine to create a list of schools that are targets in your child’s preferred geographic area.

Do they want big or small?

What do they want to study?

WVU
ASU
U of SC

SUNY —Buffalo not Binghamton

Ursinus
Utica
Clark — maybe
Susquehanna
Muhlenberg
Juniata
Kalamazoo—maybe
NEU—full pay will help and your kid could be accepted to a side program where the GPA doesn’t affect the school’s rankings

Eckerd, if marine biology desired
Hollins, if female

If female: Mount Holyoke or Bryan Mawr—full pay will help

Others: UNH, U Maine, U Rhode Island, U Mass Amherst

I included a mix of large and small.

DP. Full pay is not a hook at a T50 school. What are you smoking?
