Where do "B" average Big-3 students go to college?

Anonymous
DS is an OK student at a Big-3 (Sidwell/GDS/StA)--B average, with a good number of AP/honors/"upper level" courses. SATs average for the school (1400s). Let's assume no hook, or small hook. Full pay (no FA or scholarship needed.) Will probably write a strong essay, but not astonishingly good. What are typical target schools for this kind of student? Thank you!

Nobody’s getting into two lane with a B average unless it’s under a sports scholarship.

Would get into NE, UMiami or Tulane if willing to apply ED.

You need to prep to increase that SAT score.

From our Big 3 many of the B students went to UMiami, Tulane, Northeastern, Colgate, Colby.

ED - Wake, Villanova, BC, Lehigh, Bucknell, W&M, or Colby/Bates/Trinity

Are you talking 3.0 or 3.3-3.4? If the latter I agree with the responses here. If really 3.0, I would say more like skidmore, Gettysburg, Denver U, bard, conn college, etc. Even ED, some of those other schools would be quite a leap for a 3.0 (from a big 3).

A straight-up B average Big 3 student who is full pay isn't getting into any of those schools without some extraordinary hook. Hamilton took 8% of their applicants last admission cycle. Tulane is sufficiently competitive that we thought it was out of reach for our DC who had meaningfully better stats (and did get into Hamilton). Bates was totally out of the question, as was Wisconsin.

Don't you people get personalized college counseling for that $65K tuition you pay?

Np- our counselor believed some of these schools were realistic reaches or high targets if ED for our 3.3 kid from a big 3.
