Let me get the story straight...... Some teacher was scrounging through the recycle bin on on student's chromebook and found a google form that was created and deleted 2-4 months ago after (worst case scenario) a kid created the form and then realized what they did was wrong and deleted it. Principle Heidi decided that this was a crime that needed police involvement AND that this incident was of such high magnitude that she needed to send a letter out to all parents.

Who is the real problem.....?

+1. There is no way these kids are getting a suspension. All the pearl clutchers on DCUM don't even seem to realize that MOST of the immigrant groups in MCPS are deeply conservative on issues like this.

And, the more MCPS pushes LGBQT books and lessons into the school system, the more push back we'll see against it.

I'm in the Wood cluster and our ES just had a meeting about these LGBQT books they are pushing in to lessons at school. Plenty of the immigrant parents at our school are not pleased by these lessons.

Why does anyone care what immigrant parents think? Honestly clueless. Assimilate or be gone.

Teacher here. Any hate incident is immediately reported to administration and then reported to police. There have too many instances this year. Definitely supporting this principal. So many turn a blind eye to fights, vaping, bigotry, etc… Involve the police and let them decide. It shouldn’t be up to the school

Stop rationalizing hate. MCPS has had protection for anti-hate since 2005. If you want a school with your religious beliefs, move back home or go to a religious school.

You can also move to a country without a Constitution that provides First Amendment rights.

First amendment rights does not include harassment, hate and exclusion in public schools moron.

Was there harassment? There hasn't been any discussion of this google doc being used for that purpose.

Nope. My kid at Wood has witnessed many fights. No police called.

Agree with this. Add in the fights and the vaping and the other drugs. This really seems much milder and the response was definitely not proportional to the incident.

I'm the PP wood parent and agree here. Plenty of fights and no police come.

So how many times were the police called for the fights? Or the underage vaping?

No way I’m supporting the principal until I know if they called the cops for ACTUAL crimes and not just 1984 dystopian thought crimes.

Principle Heidi should be fired.

Ignore fights, drugs but call cops for something like this.

LGBT community has done numbers on MCPS. First trying to push their views via mandatory reading and now this. No one else matters in MCPS. It's all LGBT. A tiny population, but very influential due to being noise makers.

And I assure you that the kids are talking about it and the message that this behavior is serious and will not be tolerated has come across loud and clear.

Having said that, there is still a lot of work to do at Wood on bullying issues, many of them racial in nature. I hope she comes down on those issues the way she has on this one. I think this incidence has shed a lot of light on many issues that entire community needs to openly address and I hope she is the one starting the conversation.

Overreating to LGBT issue is not fine.

Specially when even reacting is missing for drugs, bullying, fights etc.

I think her behavior was beyond disgusting and disturbing and can definitely live without my kids being taught the lesson that the cops will be called on them for writing words. I understand it’s hateful and against school policy but involving the police in this incident was a terrible overstep on her part. I don’t buy the whole- but the kids now know it’s bad idea bs either. This is called backtracking and it makes me question her ability to run an entire school. Especially when she egregiously ignores ACTUAL CRIMES.
