Earl B Middle school homophobic club?

I just heard on the local radio station news that a secret homophobic club was started or being started and a teacher found out. What the heck is happening in MCPS middle schools. These kids are just terrible.

Wait-reading the letter it’s not clear at all the kids are homophobic or did anything hateful. They could be gay themselves and using “homophobic” tongue in cheek. A teacher found the phrase on a chrome book and it seems 2 other kids also were included. I just read something abt a lgbtqi dance call the gay bash. It’s entirely possible these kids are hateful jerks who are cruel to gay kids but the description does not confirm that st all.

Umm no.

The Homophobic Club Hub and the slide presentation and Google sign-up was all hate based.

Give me a break with your rationalizations.

How is this a “hate bias incident” if the documents were kept private and then deleted? Honestly raising 1st Amendment issues here. It sounds like an offensive joke that was written down by some friends but went no further. Is this a thought crime?

Sounds quite a bit like that.

I'd be interested to know the ethnic background of the kids involved. There is quite a bit of anti-LGBQT sentiment within the very Catholic Latinx community and Wood MS is a predominantly Latinx school.

Creating a group, making a slide presentation and having a Google doc sign on a school-owned chrome book - and against LGBTQ students is a HATE CRIME. It is not a 1st amendment right. It was found by a teacher during class. This is highly concerning.

Your definition of ‘hate crime’ seems rather broad.

Different cultures have different views on LGBQT issues. These kids may come from a different culture that you, and simply talking about their views is not necessarily a hate crime.
