| I hope the kid that created it gets suspended and has to move schools at the very least. |
Suspension? MCPS doesn't do that. Shouldn't he get Restorative Justice counseling like the kids who do drugs and fight in school? |
Freedom of association, freedom of speech... and a public school. Unless they committed an overt act, nothing will happen to them |
This is 2023 bro. Physical violence and beating a kid to a pulp can be fixed by counseling. Racist middle schools are the greatest sin and must be banished to the dungeons from which they came. Get with the times! |
We don’t know any of that. It sounds like it was deleted and somehow recovered as well. This may be misuse of the laptop, but if they didn’t disseminate it, how is it a “hate/bias event” unless merely saying/writing certain words is banned? |
It never mentioned being deleted and it was sent to at least 2 people. It's disgusting. Middle schoolers are old enough to know this is hate |
Thought crimes are a thing now. |
It might be hateful, but it’s not a crime. People are ready to burn these kids at the stake over words. That’s the real problem. |
The article states the student shared the docs with two other students then deleted them. It’s unclear if the two other students were in on it or not, or if anyone was targeted by the supposedly homophobic student. The fact that the police were called is just … wow, way extreme. |
+1. There is no way these kids are getting a suspension. All the pearl clutchers on DCUM don't even seem to realize that MOST of the immigrant groups in MCPS are deeply conservative on issues like this. |
yeah the contacting the police is just incredible. doesn’t MCPS have guidelines about when police should be contacted? there certainly could be school discipline for misusing the computer, but the allegation that this is a “hate crime” is wayyyy over the top. Even calling it a “bias incident” seems like a stretch unless the kid deliberately targeted this to gay kids. |
Stop rationalizing hate. MCPS has had protection for anti-hate since 2005. If you want a school with your religious beliefs, move back home or go to a religious school. |
+1 |
MCPS is a public school system. It is illegal for them to punish based on thought. Unless they can point to a specific action that these students took that is not protected by law, then there is nothing they can do. |
I’d love to see the anti-hate protection for mcps that says writing words results in police getting involved. |
