On the “Catholic/conservative” scale, where is Villanova?

Villanova is a solid school for academics with a great location & attractive campus.

Villanova's overlap schools are: Boston College, Fordham, Georgetown, Lehigh, Notre Dame, N'eatern, U Penn, and the University of Virginia.

My main concern regarding Villanova would focus on diversity--especially the lack of geographic diversity.

OMG in what world is Vilanova equal to UPenn? LOL no....

You misunderstand what an overlap school signifies. An overlap school simply means that students who apply to a particular college also commonly apply to these schools. An overlap school will have similarities, but that does not mean that the schools are equal in all respects. (The list of overlap schools was provided by Villanova University.)

Villanova is probably more Catholic and conservative than BC, but a bit less than Notre Dame.

OP: Why would your son reject Notre Dame ? Does he envision ND as being too Catholic or too strict ?

I visited ND about 18 months ago. Very attractive students, beautiful campus, kind people, but would not be a good fit for a partier.

There are NO conservative Catholic schools.

Sure there are. Here is my list of the five most traditionalist/conservative Catholic colleges.

1. Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio
2. Ave Maria in Florida
3. Christendom College in Front Royal, VA
4. Thomas Aquinas College in CA
5. Benedictine College in KS

6. Catholic University of America

too catholic; too conservative; too remote; too cold; too insular; too "I don't want to be around anyone I know who goes there"

"woke mob" = "I get all my 'news' from Faux New, especially Hannity/Carlson"

Accurate.

If kid wouldn't attend ND if free b/c it's too conservative, they should not apply to Villanova or any Catholic University including BC.

BC is Jesuit. We're catholic in name only and DS, who is socially more liberal, liked everything about BC.
I wouldn't lump Jesuit in the Catholic bin.

ND is no more conservative than BC.
I love the Jesuits, but they aren't the only intelligent, social justice minded community out there.

Who said that they were?

ND is definitely more religious and conservative than BC. So is Villanova.

OP, from all of your comments I don't think a Catholic university is a good fit for your child. Look elsewhere; these schools are not going to change for you.

My son is a junior, "average smart kid" (1400/3.9). We met with the school college counselor this week, and she said that based on what she saw in the early round, Villanova would be a low reach for him - by comparison, she said Lehigh and Colgate are targets. (He's an unhooked majority kid who wants to study business.) So unless you are someone who is competitive for T10 schools, I wouldn't call Villanova a safety.

Me again. That should be 1500/3.9. Not 1400.

If you are afraid a small group of moderate Republicans will harm or cause a change in political affiliation in DC, don’t apply to Villanova. Really, some of you are just too much.

BC is a match/fit. Coming from a school that sends lots of kids there.
