Because USNWR has changed all admissions people into marketing people. The AO's job is to get as many applications as possible in order to reject as many as possible while increasing yield numbers and GPA and SAT stats. That is what they are paid to do. What they tell the public is what the public wants to hear.

Why does UVA tell students they need to take a top program and have top grades if that's the case? If they just wanted people to apply, they'd tell everyone they have a chance and they don't do that.

Early Decision tends to help with yield, lower financial aid costs for the institution, and help lock in some highly qualified applicants that might go elsewhere.

Really? At the info session we went to at UVA, they made it very clear that the admission rate was significantly higher for ED than RD, and aeA was somewhere in between. It was part of the power point presentation.

Really? At the info session we went to at UVA, they made it very clear that the admission rate was significantly higher for ED than RD, and aeA was somewhere in between. It was part of the power point presentation.

We went to the same presentation and they showed in and out of state statistics, but nothing breaking down ED/EA/RD. I think you’re thinking of in and out of state.

They definitely mentioned ED v. RD at the one we attended. Maybe my memory is wrong about a slide. But I recall it very specifically because dd was considering applying ED. They gave the specific numbers for both ED and RD, both in state and out of state. This info session was this past fall.

The most recent Common Data Set for UVA that's available online (2021-22) states that there were 2,197 early decision applicants, of whom 960 were accepted. That comes out to an acceptance rate of about 44%, which is WAY higher than the overall acceptance rate.

Unless UVA is your safety and you’re competitive for HYP, you need to ED for UVA. Especially if you’re coming from a school where the top 10% of the class has a 4.5
