Because USNWR has changed all admissions people into marketing people.  The AO's job is to get as many applications as possible in order to reject as many as possible while increasing yield numbers and GPA and SAT stats.  That is what they are paid to do.  What they tell the public is what the public wants to hear.[/quote]
So pessimistic.

Why does UVA tell students they need to take a top program and have top grades if that's the case? If they just wanted people to apply, they'd tell everyone they have a chance and they don't do that.[/quote]
