Zero percent chance the authorities in Chesterfield would not have discovered he was a middle school counselor. Dumbfounding and maddening.

I agree with all this. I guess I'll take comfort in the fact that it's not common for a school employee to be arrested.

I don't know how FCPS could effectively be doing 24/7/365 background checks. Even if you found this case, you'd have to then make a determination that the defendant with the same name as an FCPS employee is the defendant in the case. And probably 95% of the time it wouldn't be one of your employees. This guy obviously kept everything under wraps/concealed from FCPS.

Disagree. I think it's good that he was not immediately fired in 2020 after being arrested. People are arrested without being convicted often enough. Teachers are held to a high standard, not an impossible one.

I believe that they are normally suspended with pay in a case like this. You don’t want someone charged with a sexual offense, especially if it is with a minor, around minors but you cannot fire them until there is a verdict.

Scott Brabrand needs to be step down from his current position immediately. Previously one just thought he was incompetent; now we know he was prepared to put children in FCPS at risk because the only thing that mattered to him was appearing to be an “ally” of certain minority groups. Disgusting pig.

There are a surprisingly large number of Richmond area resident commuting to Nova/DC to teach.

People drive two hours one way at 5 am? No wonder so many clamored to stay virtual.

I read somewhere Reid is doing an interview with Fox5 tonight. But she does need to put out another communication about this. If she knew Brabrand was notified and left that out of her email, that is not good

Do they do 24/7/365 background checks?

I doubt it. But it was basically suggested upthread. Seems like a moot point if Chester Co. notified FCPS.

Police emailed FCPS about the arrest in 2020 and they did nothing.

I think it depends on the arrest- and sex with a minor should be a fire able offense.

There is going to be more to this story coming out and FCPS is in big trouble.

Again, the normal course of action is suspension with or without pay. I would guess that it would be with pay until there is a plea deal or a conviction.

Can you provide a source? I haven’t seen proof of notice.
