Glasgow MS counselor

I am wondering what the time line was. The email makes it sound like it wasn't an immediate thing but that the Counselor was in place for a period of time and that FCPS only found out in a haphazard manner. If this was handled properly, the Counselor would have been suspended as soon as they were charged and fired when convicted. That does not sound like what happened.

FCPS screwed up with the reveal of the info in that they are leaving more unanswered questions and opening the door for speculation.

The answer seems to be none?

Lol nope, my hiring was held up 5 weeks because of a 20 year old reckless driving. They use the State Police and/or FBI database so yeah they’re doing more than standard checks.

But this person wasn’t a new hire.

I can’t blame FCPS for not knowing sooner.

I hope they are not just checking on hire and then saying “we are good!” But it sounds like that is what they are doing. I definitely have more questions.

I want to assure you that as soon as the School Board and I knew of the situation, we took immediate steps to dismiss the employee. I can confirm that the employee has been terminated and FCPS is petitioning the state to revoke his license.

How do things like this keep happening?

Interestingly, the news release from the locality that did the arresting doesn’t say anything about minors, and 2 news stories explicitly state solicitation from adults, which makes the wording in Reid’s email curious.

And that is unacceptable! These are our children! It's not ok that "only a few" children are put at risk of sexual abuse within their schools. It should never be expected that fcps public schools are not safe places for children.

What FCPS children were put at risk of sexual abuse?

+1.

But, but Va State sex offender registries doesn’t every state have one? Wouldn’t that be part of a routine background check? And I’d think solicitation of s minor would get you on the list? Or maybe not.

Background check is irrelevant if the crime happens after hire.

That is the logical conclusion, it happened after the hire and the Counselor didn’t report it to the school. If the Counselor ended up on a sexual predator registry it might take a while to get back to FCPS, if FCPS is doing regular checks against the list.

Expect more of this with the resi teachers.

Jeffrey Epstein was charged with the same thing. Those girls were not “minor prostitutes.”

Name is public here: https://www.fox5dc.com/news/fairfax-county-school-employed-counselor-convicted-in-sex-crime-with-minor-superintendent-says

Feels like this is more on the legal system reporting side. FCPS can’t be doing 365 background checks.

it happened over two years ago. it should have been caught much sooner.
