A top leadership role? It’s county executive peeps. There have been plenty of examples of politicians going straight to much higher offices than that. Look, if you think Elrich’s many years in local govt made him a good CE, by all means vote to re-elect him. Or if you think Reimer’s putzing around on the council would make him a good CE, then vote for him. But look at the quality of their years in local government rather than just the quantity. |
DP. I don’t know if anyone who has ever been successful contacting Elrich’s office, do you? Reimer at least has him been in constituent services even if he’s a bit of a bloke. |
Exactly the same here. Except my husband doesn’t even vote in the primaries so he was regretful after that too. 2 votes right there. |
The idea that Riemer has good constituent services is false. His office will respond to you if you agree with him and they will never respond if you don’t agree or even have constructive suggestions. Example: if you send his office a message that you want more bike lanes, he will send you a response that he agrees and is trying to make that happen because he’s the champion bike lane supporter on the council* (*he isn’t). If you send his office a message saying that his ag reserve solar proposal should take account of soil quality for agricultural use, crickets. |
It’s a low bar, I’ll admit. Doesn’t seem like it would be too hard for Elrich to be better yet somehow it is. |
The County Executive doesn’t have constituent services. That is not a role of an executive. Maybe the county agencies have poor work ethics and business standards, but that’s a different problem then wondering why the County Executive won’t respond to your emails or phone calls. It’s notable though that when Elrich was a councilmember he was known for having excellent constituent services. It’s how he had such a broad base of support from around the county to win in the first place. |
I actually quite agree with you about the quality of their years in government. The issue here, for me, is that as a known entity in a government role, with Blair, I have zero. And so far, few of the Blair supporters have suggested specifics that, for me, mitigate that. I haven’t voted yet. I am earnestly seeking reasons that might make me view Blair as a good candidate — beyond being a wealthy white businessman who does well for himself and who has connections with developers. And, yes, I know what the position is, and, as you might imagine, I’d have concerns about “plenty of … politicians going straight to much higher offices” as well. |
Thank you. This is useful information, for me, at least. I’ve never tried to reach out for constituent services, so I’m learning from the comments of those of you who have. |
Constituent services for the County Executive is to call 311. If you have issues, just call 311 people. They will help you. |
Ok now that’s funny. ~county employee |
The idea that people expect personalized responses to their issues from the County Executive is funny to me. That’s what county agencies are for. Do they think that if they send an email to the Marc about a broken sidewalk that he will respond himself? If county employees are not providing good customer service then please work harder, you, county employee. Have an issue with library hours, has anyone thought to first contact MCPL directly and if that doesn’t work, contact their CM second? That’s literally how it’s supposed to work. I don’t understand what people are expecting. The one part of the county government that I do personally know is broken with zero recourse are the regional service centers. At this stage it would be better for everyone to just incorporate those areas and turn it over to new municipalities because they are absolutely useless. |
311 is useless |
311 has been extremely helpful for me with several different issues. - lifelong MoCo resident |
+1 from me and my DH who voted for Bill Frick. So mad. |
Electing anyone for their first office takes a leap of faith, I’ll give you that. I voted for Krasnow last time because I felt similarly and underestimated just how much the race was between Blair and Elrich. Easier decision this time around, as I don’t think Elrich has been a good leader/manager. But I recommend you read/listen to the various resources out there and make your own decision. |
