Even Matt Yglesias is giving up on Riemer now:

First off, that guy doesn’t even live in Montgomery County. Second, LOL.

I was suspicious too. And voted for Elrich last time because of it. Huge mistake.

Trone did the same thing, and he seems to be doing well as a Congressman.

REALLY a huge mistake 4 years ago because Blair lost by 77 votes.

I supported Rose Krasnow in 2018. my husband & neighbor both said I was throwing my vote away, but I really liked her. Shit, I wished so bad I could have undone my vote after the results were announced. I think I could have found another 76+ people in her camp who would have done the same.

Actually, I voted for Krasnow in the primary and voted for Elrich in the general. I should have voted for Floreen. But, same result.

I voted Floreen in the general election. Pretty sure she was crushed as an independent.

A lot Hans biggest fans and a good number of his donors don’t live in Montgomery County.

Literally none of the people who support Riemer will be affected by the policies he promotes, including Riemer himself. The thread in that tweet is from a guy who lives in a cul-de-sac in Rockville! It’s incredible.

Genuine question.

Why do you say he is buying an election? Is it because he buys ads? Don’t all politicians do the same?

DP. I read this as noting that Blair has spent about 5 million of his own money on this election. That’s in addition to the over 5 million that he spent on the last election. What exactly is this candidate with no prior government experience hoping to get for his money? I have the same question for whoever is funding the superPAC.

You could say the same about Trone and Delaney. However both have served well and there is no reason to think Blair will be any different. He has long ties to this county instead of another candidate who’s barely been here longer than he has been on the council and perhaps he just cares about the county and public service.

Maybe he just cares

People living in their progressive bubbles don't seem to realize how much many "regular" Democrats hate Elrich. Now, whether they get out to vote or not, I have no idea. So far early voting has been very light.

What’s a “regular “ Democrat?

Liberal but not progressive.

Me, I hate him.

Maybe. He’s definitely invested in the county. I hope he also genuinely cares about public service too.

Spending $10 million (last time plus this time) or even *just* $5 million to "buy" a county executive position is asinine. There is not enough ROI if that is indeed his MO, there's no logic, it's worse than flushing money down a toilet. I think Blair genuinely cares and thinks Montgomery County has so much potential based on its past successes and can do way better going forward. He (and many others judging from his polls and his 77 vote loss last time) are tired of hearing and experiencing the echo chamber that is Montgomery County local politics.

I hope Elrich wins again.

He’s exactly what the people of MoCo deserve. I switched parties just so I could vote for him in the primary.

Am I reading this correctly? You would do this to punish MoCo? This is a joke, correct?

My spouse is a county employee who would like to feel respected and supported again, which is why we are hoping Blair wins. Wouldn’t you want to use your vote to help, not hurt?

All these dudes are the same.

- Yglesias lived in SFH in historically protected neighborhood in DC.

- Guy he retweets lives in SFH in cul-de-sac outside the beltway in Rockville that controls its own zoning.

- Riemer lives in SFH in historically protected neighborhood in Takoma Park that controls its own zoning.

All 3 have strong feelings about development and urbanization in other peoples neighborhoods while the neighborhoods they have chosen to live in would explicitly not be affected, except to probably increase their property values.

Funny how this works. And it’s always the same. Every one of these guys.
