The same could be said of Mary Cheh. If she had given a proper endorsement earlier in the race, the field would have narrowed a lot earlier. |
|
Duncan received a grand total of 12 donations after Cheh's "endorsement" - it did nothing for Duncan or Frumin.
The Washington Post clearly still carries sway in Ward 3, as little else explains Goulet's showing. |
I think Bowser burned by trying to unseat Silverman and was never going to give anyone an endorsement. Cheh is more mystifying since she's clearly not checked out on council business. |
Nah. Even people who voted for Cheh before are not sorry to see her go. Her “Prof. Cheh always knows best” attitude was getting worse. And she was more checked out, except for a few issues. She has delegated to her staff anything in which she doesn’t have a burning personal interest. Folks who have been in meetings with her and her chief of staff over the past two or three years have wondered at times who was the Councilmember and who was the staffer. I didn’t vote for Frumin, but I am confident that he will be an improvement over Cheh. He will listen more, for starters. |
Actually because Eric got the nomination, DFER got heavily involved in his campaign. Here are all the Wash Post Nominees Mayor: Muriel E. Bowser (Winner) Attorney General: Brian Schwalb (Winner) Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives: Eleanor Holmes Norton (Winner) D.C. Council: Chairman: Phil Mendelson (Winner) At-Large: Nate Fleming (Loser) Ward 1: Salah Czapary (Loser) Ward 3: Eric Goulet (Loser) Ward 5: Faith Gibson Hubbard (Loser) The Post went 4-4 Bowser, Norton were easy picks. Mendelson was a favorite. Ward 1 was a radical pick and lost. The other 3, which would be considered major picks of new candidates (Fleming, Czapary, and Hubbard), all lost. So I don't think the Wash Post has as much sway as people think |
Sorry I should add that the one pick for a new candidate that worked was Brian Schwalb for AG. |
As of last night, Duncan was ahead of Finley. Finley was hurt by his longstanding ties to Trumper pollster Bob Ward. |
Finley never put up signs. And he was always low energy. On twitter, he never posted anything insightful or showed he was campaigning anywhere. He didn't even bother to explain his accomplishments on the ANC during any of the debates. |
|
I would attribute Schwalb more to:
1) racine 2) being a fair election candidate |
Bob Ward is sleazy. He posted obsessively on the Cleveland Park listserve in support of Finley but wasn’t open on his ties to the campaign |
Yup, agree on both counts. I was torn between Schwalb and Spiva for a while, but these two factors are what swayed me to vote for Schwalb. |
Time to let it go. |
His campaign, such as it was, focused on the “Connecticut Avenue corridor,” especially apartment buildings, with some other outreach in Forest Hills. He had some signs. Despite all-out support by Bob Ward’s Smart Growth “group” Finley never got the support of GGW. And to the extent that he is known, Finley is not very popular in Cleveland Park where he currently is the ANC chair, so he had no real local base of support. |
You behaved badly Bob and you know it! |
what were his ties to the campaign? Show your work. |
