I loathe to say this….because I really don’t like Kanye West as a person and he appears to be a straight up a$$hole in ever sense of the word, but creativity he really is a genius. Have you listened to his non radio play music? Right now I’m listening to The College Drop out of constant repeat. Spaceship is fire.

NP: Who he is as a person is SO much louder than who he is as an artist to the point that all I hear about him is how mentally unhinged he is and that he needs medication. And that part is so abhorrent that I have no interest in seeking out his music, or anything else to do with him. (Secondarily to his personality I have seen some of his fashion and have always found each piece ugly.)

I have never understand the "he's a genius" description for Kanye.

Interesting how many of the stated artists are female.

I'd have to say Justin Timberlake, a lot of the bro country guys, and Drake.

I feel like almost all current music is overrated. There are a few catchy songs here and there but generally it’s all crap. Few artists actually write their own music or play instruments these days.

Artists that I really don’t get include Lizzo, Ariana Grande, John Mayer, any and all k-pop.

But I realize that the music business doesn’t necessarily target 40-something women as evidenced by the fact that the music I like is deemed classic rock now.

No I like his music. Luke Bryan is terrible.

I get why John Mayer grates on people, but he is an incredible guitar player and a phenomenal songwriter.

I think a reason many of these artists people are listing are underwhelming is that they are pop artists and pop still leans heavily toward the success of singles. If anything, streaming has made the success or failure of singles much more important to an artists overall popularity.

Pop artists, even the best ones, tend to only make a few really, really good songs and the rest of the album is a disappointment. This has been true for 50-60 years. It's the rare artist who can make a full album that is excellent, and there's a reason those artists, and those albums, withstand the test of time.

But yeah, I like individual Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Lana Del Ray, Beyonce, Ed Sheerah, etc. songs. But when I've tried to listen to entire albums, I'm very underwhelmed. Adele is someone else in this category.

This is one reason why, although I have very eclectic musical taste and can enjoy a lot of pop music, I gravitate towards indie rock (which isn't really "indie" anymore but the sound is distinct), because the creative process for those bands yields more consistently good music, IMO. Like you know who never disappoints? Courtney Barnett, Slater Kinney, Vampire Weekend, Radiohead, etc. Even when an album is subpar, I never have the response I sometimes do to the B tracks on pop albums where I just think "Oh wow, this is hot garbage."

Drake's singing/rapping is vocal diarrhea.

I think you meant "mopey" but I now prefer "moopy" as it is like mopey meets droopy plus goopy, and that sums up her and lot of other "artists" here.

I am going to campaign for moopy to be in the dictionary now.

This is interesting because I'm a Taylor Swift fan, and I very much feel the reverse. Her singles are fine, very catchy, but underwhelming compared to the album tracks where I feel like she does more interesting songwriting and storytelling.

Are you a musician? I am, and I think he’s pretty brilliant. Some of his chords and chord changes are really genius. He’s one of the best guitarists of my generation.

You’re calling an entire country’s music overrated. I wonder if they think the same of American music.
