This is so upsetting. The three kids charged with the crime probably never had a decent shot at a decent life. That doesn't excuse their actions, but my god the way we manage our most vulnerable kids in this country is beyond fcked. What chance do they really have?

The article says the 17 year old went to the police to say he witnessed a stabbing and turned in the other two. That suggests that he has a conscience and that he got caught up in something unintended. (Or that he knew he was on camera, but not sure how he’d know that.). It says the 18 year old lived with the victim so this seems less random. It may be that the younger ones thought they were just buying pot from the older one’s roommate, and then the older one stabbed the roommate to take the drugs.

This whole situation is sad all around. The victim lost his lif over 2 oz of marijuana. So incredibly horrible. The three kids who murdered--- what a waste. A complete and utter waste. What possessed them to behave this way? It's so so frustrating. They had their whole lives ahead of them. They could have made something of themselves with the right guidance. Unfortunately, it seems their life circumstances were not in their favor. It's so frustratingly sad. Just an utter waste.

One of the articles said the deceased lived in a condo a few blocks from where he was stabbed to death. MJ dealing pays ok.

All 3 teens lived in a shelter on Greentree Road. None of them lived with the victim.

It was my first reaction, too. Four lives wasted. And yes, that's exactly who commits horrible crimes -- people who have been thrown away as children.

This is one reason parents need to be aware. Yes, these kids were in a therapeutic group home. But there are so many "regular" kids in the Bethesda/Potomac area buying drugs in stairwells from people like this. It doesn't take much for illegal drug deals to go bad. And while only one kid stabbed that guy, all three are going to jail for a long time.

NP. What "circumstances not in their favor" forced these young adults to kill someone for marijuana? That was their _only_ choice when dealing with life?
