Teen DD has worn PJ bottoms to school every day for two weeks

My FIL lives on the UES in NYC. Sunday mornings, all the rich people are running out to get coffee in their pajama bottoms and they have been doing this since the mid-90s.

Obviously she’s not overly concerned with being fashionable and I’m certainly not going to micromanage what she wears - it’s her choice. But I’m just wondering if she’s the only one?

Actually that is what’s fashionable these days.

No, it’s not.

Honestly the kids who do this TEND to be the kids who have depression or are on the verge of. The “I give up caring” kids. It may just be my daughter’s school…but it’s definitely a certain crowd that does this.

It’s just your kid’s school. I teach HS and all sorts of kids - straight A students, athletes, art/theater kids, etc - are all wearing pajama bottoms. It’s certainly not a sign of depression or kids who have given up.

+1. You may think it is an ugly fashion statement but it is, in fact, a fashionable look right now. I can see how this would be confusing to adults who are not familiar with trends right now, though.

Not true. I have two kids and one is at a private with a very strict dress code, the other in public. They both dress the same when out and about.

I don’t have teens but this is not the hill I would want to die on. Teens are generally not super focused on what adults think looks pulled together and presentable. I’d choose loose fitting clothing like pajama pants and sweats over the god awful low rise jeans I was wearing in HS. Let them live. Some of these pps need to quit clutching their pearls.

Seriously...doesn't everyone do this? I'm a lazy ass and don't make my own coffee. Each morning I stumble to the coffee shop and get my coffee...in my PJs
I throw over a sweatshirt so my headlights are fully covered. I'm definitely not the only one in bed attire.

Oh dear lord.

I. High school I wore doc martins, ripped jeans and fishnets. My parents generation was clutching their pearls saying the same garbage.

I don’t know if “fashionable” is the right word, but it’s definitely a trend for high school kids who aren’t required to wear uniforms. Everyday I see multiple high school students waiting for the bus in plaid flannel pajama pants (mostly girls). Interestingly, I don’t see it as much with middle school kids.

They're both inappropriate. It screams bad/ scared parenting. Teach them to dress properly.

What are you talking about? Are you drunk or something?
