"Glenn Youngkin is an authoritarian who puts our children at risk"

The take is: Youngkin may have backed away from Trump, but it's the billionaires and elites that run the GOP that are setting up the plan to steal the 2024 election, not Trump. It's the party that's designing gerrymanders to assure white Christian authoritarian minority rule. And the guy made the case that Youngkin embraced all that -- Youngkin took the money from Koch and Heritage billionaires and the GOP corporate interests and the gun companies and fossil fuel companies.

I am not sure if Youngkin himself is an authoritarian. To me he seems more like a dim, born-advantaged private equity guy who might not fully know what the GOP stands for today.
I don't fully see voting for Youngkin as embracing authoritarianism and helping to further climate disaster that will impact our kids future.

My kids will have the chance to get an abortion in VA or MD or another blue state.
Is Youngkin really a step to taking that away?

I can't tell if the bolded is specifically in reference to abortion or a summary of the whole post, but on abortion the official Republican party platform is anti-choice. I really can't believe people are this obtuse or ignorant. And you are going to see what happens to the rights of your daughters re: abortion when the Supreme Court reverses Roe or guts 40+ years of jurisprudence on the issue later this year. The right of married couples to birth control may or may not remain intact. And yes, I said married couples. Laws restricting the rights of women to obtain birth control may be back on menu. Enjoy!

As far as the authoritarianism, well, yes. And as a politician you are either part of it or you're not. How does a voter tell the difference? That is simple - does your candidate reject Trump's attempted coup or not? I realize that people freak out about using the "c" word, but that's your own arrogance talking. You think it can't happen here. It only happens in third word $hitholes with tin pot dictators. Welp, I've got news for you. The head of state calling up leaders of other states to find votes, publicly declaring the vote was rigged, convening a rally to challenge the results of legitimate election, and then tacitly endorsing the violent actions of your followers - that's a coup.

I'd like to consider voting for a moderate Republican, but there really aren't any left. And watching things like birth control and abortion rights come front and center has only cemented the fact that I want my daughters to have the chance at full autonomy and equal rights. So adios GOP.

What if your daughters become Republicans. Adios to them too?

Are some people really this clueless? Quit your sky-is-falling nonsense. It's only making you look absurd.

You know, if you had told me a year ago that a bunch of deranged Trumpers would break into the Capitol threatening the Vice President I would have called you chicken little too. Hmm.

Attacking RvW is the GOP long game. They’ve worked so hard to get here. Remember Kennedy, BK, ACB?

Guess we will see what the SCOTUS does with Mississippi (and Texas).

2021 was a record year for anti-abortion legislation. Tons of states are positioned to restrict/ban if the SCOTUS comes through.

DP. Yes, you've been fear-mongering since Kavanaugh, and then went into overdrive with ACB. Turns out, they've been siding with abortion providers in the cases presented so far. Whelp!

They haven’t even heard Mississippi yet.

You’re in denial. Facts are there. 2021 was a record year for anti-abortion legislation.

They WHAT?!

No, they haven't.

I wish the republicans would get sense back and stop their insane Trump worship and anti science BS, but they show no signs of stopping. Until then I can't trust any Republican ever.

The right is already complaint that he's a RINO. The "take" you describe is a very dumb one.

Shockingly, our Republic was set up with states retaining the police powers. If SCOTUS overturns Roe v. Wade and the issue returns to the states, big deal. You can lobby your state legislature. You can order Plan B on the Internet. You can set up a 501(c)3 to fund travel for poor women to another state. I would rather see power leaving DC and returning to the states on a whole host of issues.

(Says a person who is not worried about themself ever needing to terminate a pregnancy and being unable to do so, and who does not care about anybody else who might be in that circumstance.)

Plan B isn't for abortions.

The Texas law doesn't have exceptions for fatal abnormalities. Women with fetuses with things like anencephaly (fetus has no brain, 100% fatal and poses a risk to the mother because you can't deliver a baby with a misshapen head normally) have had to go out of state.

No person of above average iq living in her nova bubble actually believes that Glenn Youngkin is a threat to democracy.
