DP. Whether he's a centrist or "solidly to the right" does not concern me at all. The PP is correct. He will appoint people with common sense to the VDOE - something that has been sorely lacking for some time. All the money and time that has been wasted on an "equity lens" and "anti-bias" needs to be funneled into academics. Normal, rational people of ALL political stripes - sorry, "stakeholders - have had it with the far-left's crazy policies. |

As he's already elected, I'm not sure what point your post serves. These are doubts you should have explored before the election.
But yes, your neighbor is right. Youngkin is fully in line with the GOP agenda, which is anti-choice and anti-climate and supports gerrymandering to prevent Dem wins. It is absolutely bizarre to characterize him as not fully knowing what the GOP stands for -- seriously? Your theory is that he won a major election and will govern a state, but is somehow not in touch with the party that backed him or really any news media at all? When he signs laws that take away the right to choose and the right to vote, will that be an ignorant oopsie too? Honestly, the willingness to excuse these jerks is baffling. I am honestly not sure you can still characterize VA as a blue state, and given national trends I do not expect my young DD to be able to obtain a safe legal abortion by the time she is an adult. I am worried that within the next 4 years the attacks on voting rights will make a Dem win impossible. But congrats on preventing 17 year olds from reading Beloved or whatever. |
I agree that most people are actually moderates, but I completely disagree with your first statement. It's the extreme left that has proven to be so divisive - with no signs of stopping. Which is why they've lost recent elections. |
I have her go hopes for tanked choice voting. Liked how it tuned out in nyc. Hoping it spreads. Power to the moderates!! |
*high hopes for ranked choice voting |
Yeah, $400M just fell into his pockets because he’s tall and White, right? Because that’s how you imagine the world works - no particular skill or brains required. He’ll be making Virginia a better place to live, work, and get an education, all while the usual crowd chatters away. |
Ban? Probably nothing that wouldn’t stick - although I’m sure they’re going to wait to see how things play out with the SCOTUS cases first. He will support everything thrown his way by the GA. We have a R house and split senate (at least 1 D is anti-choice), and LG who wants to implement a heartbeat ban. |
+1 Gnashing their teeth the whole time. |
Thank you for the reasonable and correct take. |
I see you have no idea how the wealthy work. Have you been to a top MBA program? Worked at a top bank or PE firm or hedge fund? There is a ton of incompetence at the top. How much money your daddy had, plus luck, is 95% of the battle. Everyone works hard in those jobs. Mediocre conservatives fill the elite of America. Born on third base and think they hit a triple – the definition of reactionary Republicans today. |
this isn't making me feel better |
| Hahaha, you don’t think billionaires and elites weren’t behind McAuliffe and the Democrat party?? You do know the governor doesn't determine the voting boundaries, right? |
*meant to say, “You think elites and billionaires weren’t behind…” |
No, I think that the vast majority of billionaires in this country are conservative or rightwing reactionaries dedicated to autocracy. And I think that the GOP has been taken over by a few hundred rightwing billionaires and everything Republicans do is in service to the wealthy. In fact, this book confirms it: https://www.amazon.com/Billionaires-Stealth-Politics-Benjamin-Page/dp/022658612X
From a summary they wrote:
Knowing this is pretty important to understanding Youngkin's agenda - this is what his party stands for. |
Exactly. Who did Zuckerberg donate to? (McAuliffe). Who did Soros + his foundations support? Dems. Who did Holyweird support? Dems. Who does 90% of the media support? Dems. Who does Disney support? Radical Dems. Who do unions support exclusively? Dems. You are not the party of the people. You are the party of the billionaires. |
