You must be new to NOVA. Your perspective is hilarious because it's quite the opposite. It has really shifted from red to blue in 20 years. And, the trend has been to escape MoCo TO NoVa.
P.S. - Maryland has a Republican governor too. |
The post is obvious trolling by someone from MoCo who has never lived in NoVa. |
I want our schools to emphasize academics and rigor as well. I just don't see how the GOP has ever been for strong academics. |
Going by numbers of college graduates, the Democrats' edge in education seems to be relatively recent. Based on the dates, the drop-off from Republicans seems to have been a casualty of the Dubya administration. |
Well for now the FCPS and LCPS school boards remain a progressive sh#Tshow so unclear how much the governor will be able to rein them in until they are voted out in their strongly blue counties. Would love see the FCPS board rethink their changes to TJ but not holding my breath. VOTE THEM OUT! The rest of the state will enjoy rigor in their public schooling. |
PS MD and DC have higher taxes too. |
High need populations, duh! |

Whelp, that's $228 million he needs to replace or cut https://www.virginiamercury.com/2021/12/06/virginia-reaps-228-million-in-first-year-of-carbon-market-participation/ |
|
He will cut. And the air and water will be dirtier. And Virginia will miss out on the burgeoning Carbon markets while DC, NC and MD do participate.
Meanwhile, Virginia businesses will find themselves at a competitive disadvantage as their markets demand these reforms and they will be forced to relocate or do it on their own, which is much more expensive than if the whole state does it. Sad. |

You naysayers forgot to mention this part:
In a statement, however, House Speaker-designee Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah, applauded Youngkin’s move, saying that “public policy must achieve results. If it doesn’t, then it’s not good policy.” “Virginia’s participation in RGGI was premised on the fact that it showed ‘leadership’ in combating climate change. The cost of RGGI to Virginia families and businesses is very real, while the impact of RGGI on climate change is negligible at best — a fact that was documented well before outgoing Governor Northam opted the commonwealth into the pact,” said Gilbert. “In fact, Virginia was reducing carbon emissions from power plants at a rate comparable to RGGI states before joining the cap and trade group.” |
The tread title is literally left wing. How do you have a discussion on whether or not the governor is an authoritarian threat to children without right or left leaning responses? |
+1 So many of these threads are given utterly stupid, hyperbolic, far-left titles designed to start fights. Very hard to take people like the OPs (and other simpletons who pile on) seriously. |
| Is there any possibility to prevent Youngkin and the rest of the reactionaries from being sworn in and keep the current administration and legislature in place because of the severe omicron crisis? I feel changing political leadership during this uncertain time would be stupid and cause needless suffering. |
I hate Republicans as much as anybody but if you start “pausing” democracy over a crisis the Republicans will never let us have an election again, and they’re already on the precipice of fascism as it is. |
