I know it's silly but I've always been a big fan of hers. She seemed like a nice, normal person who just happened to be so pretty that she caught the eye of a prince. She also didn't seem that into the job, like she married him because she loves him not because she wants to be queen that badly.

This news that she didn't stand up for Meghan, that she didn't issue a correction of what really happened with Meghan at the dress fitting, that she is married to a racist who questions the skin color of his nephew, etc.

It's really disappointing. I feel like I can't be a fan anymore.

I noticed this. I now have a dislike for her because of it. She should have done more. Vocally

She wouldn't even have had to say anything or speak to the press. She could have just gone out to lunch with Meghan somewhere they'd be seen right after the news broke. It would have sent a message that the story was a nonissue.

Like the tennis game they went to together and Kate was very friendly to her?

I'm convinced Kate and William are going to have a 4th child after this interview to push him down to #7

But the real question is will they teach their fourth baby to be as racist as they are? Only time will tell...

They can't. Royal babies cost too much money. There were already questions when they had a 3rd. Take a look at all the other royals - the Queen's children only have 2 a piece and the Queen's grandchildren only have 2 a piece (except Kate).

You think that's a coincidence? Some magical combination of infertility and only liking two kids that affected 12 different couples?

According to other posters Kate should get a job to pay for their security and stop being an entitled bitch.

Kate is a working member of the BRF. Meghan is not. See the difference?

Good point. If you work for the family you get some perks and lose some independence like doing work on the side for significant $$. Meghan and Harry lose the perks and get the independence (and ability to earn their own perks). Not sure how this is complicated.

Thank you, Sophie, Duchess of Wessex.

I don't think most Americans get British humour, particularly that of older generations where racist stereotypes were seen as harmless good fun even if said without malice.

Harry is the one who perceived it as offensive. Meghan only heard it second hand.

Or be related it nonchalantly and she took it and ran with it.

Humor, especially around color, is gone, banned from American society. There is no humor anymore.

Pro tip. It was never funny to some of us. We just were guilted/dismissed/threatened to keep our mouths shut

To be fair, all humor seems to be dead. Out of curiosity, what is funny to you? Do you laugh ever? Can you make fun of yourself? I’ve been called pasty white and told that I look ugly like a ghost, why is my face so pale? This coming from person of color. I laughed it off.

So many things are funny to me. And I'm pretty darn funny. Often told I'm the funniest person folks know. I've even been told that others I've discussed/depicted aren't as funny as I made them seem when discussing them. So, I'd say- a strong PhD in funny. And the other compliment I've been paid is 'I can take it as well as I dish it out.'
Congrats on the specific racial incidents to recount and laugh off (as there were so few). I've certainly lost count.

Do you really believe that pale, almost albino, individuals aren’t ostracized? Believe me, I would rather have MM’s complexion than mine. I am freakishly white and am reminded of it daily. It’s not attractive.

The fact that you think my being black and your being pale is analogous is telling.

I’m beyond pale, have been ridiculed by persons of all colors since childhood, was assaulted by a POC, still asked why my skin is so pale, described by a POC as the woman with the white face. What would you call this?

+1 This didn't have to be inimical, strange that it's become so.

Let's not understate the obvious. KATE IS THE MOTHER OF A FUTURE KING.

I hope this all brings down the BRF. They need to be dis-mantled.

And wife of a future king.

Does anyone find the whole story about therapy really, really weird? It's well known (at least here in the UK), that Charles pushed Diana to go to therapy, that William and Harry went to therapy after their mother passed (they've both spoken publicly about this), that Kate went to therapy with her brother when he was very depressed. Meghan said that she told everyone and no one was willing to help. Harry then said he told no one, not even his family. She couldn't have called up her OBGYN to ask for a referral? A private doctor? Harry's therapist? It makes no sense to me.

I'm sorry, I like Meghan and I'm rooting for her, but that seemed TOTALLY PETTY. I don't know why she just didn't say, when O. asked, "That is an example of a totally false tabloid story. In short, the answer is NO, I never made Kate cry about the dresses."

Answering like she did, did not fit well with the rest of the interview. It seemed like there were petty feuds and it just gave more ammo to those rumors. I found it so strange that she threw Kate under the bus like that, only to make herself look petty.

I disagree I think its an important distinction. Saying 'it never happened' is somewhat vague and can be easily forgotten, saying 'this not only did not happen, but the reverse actually did happen and someone in the palace reversed the roles in the story and pushed it out months later' says much more clearly that the firm was looking to intentionally hurt her, a point that would not have been made by 'it never happened.'

She went out of her way to not paint Kate badly here.

It will be the end when Philip of Greece dies. The Queen will abdicate to Charles or William and they can downsize as other European royalty has done. The Brits who valued the tradition are dying off and what is left cares more about the economy than monarchy. The Queen has seen this since her reign began and controlled it through incredible force of will. But for the phenomenal Queen and her prince, it would have been gone years ago. Harry and Philip would be a military man and an art dealer with grace and favour cottages in Cornwall.

I’m confused. When Meghan was a working member of the royal family they didn’t want to pay for her security either... Why is it a given for Kate? She wasn’t even getting racist death threats.

1. MM can't say she didn't make Kate cry because she doesn't know. If Kate was embarrassed enough to apologize, etc, she likely did cry. People cry, especially when they are hormonal and Kate had just given birth. She was probably exhausted too.

2. MM was trying to be helpful by helping the BRF connect with minorities. But if the BRF doesn't know how they come off, they might have found that suggestion offensive.

3. Americans are much more expressive than Brits and this may have caused them to dismiss her pleas for help as insincere.

4. Americans are raised to think that people can't mistreat us without our permission. This means that if we are being treated poorly we feel like we have to stick up for ourselves. That is the opposite of what the BRF expected from her. Loyalty is expressed differently.

5. At the end of the day, she joined an old monarchy. They won't change just because the world has changed. In fact they have a vested interest in maintaining the illusion that they are superior people. Meghan, a black American... this wasn't going to end well because people are who they are and are raised to see things a certain way. Racism is an inherent part of their power so why would they seek to be accessible to black Commonwealth subjects? It would undermine their power to do so, in their minds.

She completely signed up to be a part of an archaic relic of a family. Not sure what she expected.

The Queen will never, ever abdicate. Never.
