Yep. I don’t see why this example keeps getting used over and over to illustrate how the press was left to run amuck unchecked. The guy got fired - rightfully so.

Except that one guy is part of a series in a list of racial aggression that started long before Meghan married into the family and judging by the reactions of the BRF - long after. Heaven help any of the Cambridge children who have a crush on anyone with a complexion darker than their Uncle Harry's.

Is Meghan holding Harry’s wearing a Nazi uniform to account or is her outrage selective?

The difference is that Harry has acknowledged and apologized for that behavior. He said in the interview that he has learned a lot about racism and bigotry, and that he's been trying to educated his family about it as well.

I don't get why people keep bringing up the Nazi uniform and other remarks as evidence of Harry being a racist when it's actually evidence of his self-awareness and the personal progress he's made.

The BBC reporter was immediately fired yet people keep carrying on about that as if the entire organization endorsed it. I don’t get why people keep bringing that up all the time either.

DP. I personally don’t get the whole narrative that people on here have. My understanding is that a lot of you feel that Harry was close to his family and then Meghan drove them apart. But during this period of closeness Harry was doing things like wearing Nazi uniforms to colonialism themed parties and yet none of his supposedly not racist family had an issue with that (consider also that William attend that same party with him). If Harry is a racist then so are the rest of them. And frankly just because someone is a racist doesn’t mean that they can’t make accurate points about other people being racist. Donald Trump is quite obviously a racist and even he has accurately identified racism a number of times. A broken clock is still right twice a day!

Sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry and his whole family was racist.

And Meghan chose to marry into that.

Oh shit, this is a weak argument. Plenty people enter into interracial marriages where there are family members who are racist ASF. Love has a funny way of making people disregard the hard stuff in the beginning. Eventually these people extricate themselves and children from these family members. Heck, on DCUM women marry into toxic families of all stripes, and they eventually come on DCUM preaching about how they do not allow their children near said grandparents, uncles, etc. They are so proud of themselves. However according to you, they married into that family and they should just accept it and deal with it.

It's not just that she married into the family. She accepted the job.

Then she quit the job. So she's done. Why is she running to Oprah? She thinks she's Eric Snowden now?

If you want to marry into a racist family more power to you. But you aren't the victim you think you are. Stop trying to martyr yourself and get pitty for your own life choices.

Contrary to what some of you seem to believe, you DON'T have to grin and bear being treated poorly. By the press? Sure. By the family? Hell no. No way. Not in MY family, let alone my in-laws. Many of you are ignoring the elephant in the room.

This isn't just about the press being meanies. Get real, please.

Exactly this.

Is it though? Moving to another continent and then trashing the family on Oprah doesn't exactly make them look like victims of the family. It makes them look the opposite.

Harry felt let down by Charles? Because Charles didn't support him leaving, "abdicating". Because when Harry told Charles that Meghan was reliving Diana's path to death? Because Charles wasn't sympathetic to that. That's not victim hood.

Meghan suffered from culture shock, including the culture of dealing with staff. And, like a teenager, she decided to run away. Okay. It was a hard situation. And duty was no reason for her to stay and work it out. So running away made sense to her. And it's not victim hood either.

But why should everyone support her in that?

No one was "trashing the family," stop being dramatic.

DP. Please. If I suggested on a major public platform that at least one member of your immediate family was a racist, you’d crap your pants. Don’t pretend that’s a nice or even neutral thing to say about your own family.

It is absolutely wild to me how people still can't seem to wrap their head around this:

Being racist or mistreating someone is A-Okay, but speaking out against said racism or mistreatment is some terrible sin? Your pearl-clutching Karens really have a twisted sense of logic that only fits your narrow, sheltered worldviews.

Where’s the evidence of racism? I don’t find H&M credible, so I’m not just gonna take their word for it.

Well, there’s the horrible stuff in the tabloids that many think she should have been prepared for and fail to see as racist. There was that lovely blackamoor brooch that many of you think is just jewelry. That alone would have been more than enough — particularly since there’s no indication that anyone in the family did or said anything about it. There’s also the very real possibility that many things have been said and done that none of us are privy to.
Curious though: What would you view as credible evidence of racism?

Oh, no, you see, these people don't think anything that doesn't involves the N word or outright physical violence could be racist. And even then, I mean, think of the poor souls who are racist! Will no one think of them?!

So a racist aunt is enough for you to make your DH quit his job, abandon his duty, and leave the country?

That doesn't make sense.

Why are you acting like that single incident was what set them off? It was one of many examples. Come on, it's not that difficult, unless you've lived an extremely sheltered existence and need everything spelled out for you.

For the record, I'm not a Meghan Stan or whatever the hell they call themselves. I just think the Meghan haters are a really odd looking bunch, with seemingly zero self-awareness.

Because racism is not why they left. It's only being used to attack the BRF by H&M.

Right, the aunt wears the black moor jewelry, there’s “concern” over the baby’s skin color and the BBC compares Archie to a monkey. The BBC is the equivalent of the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal in terms of prestige. But, sure no racism at all. Nothing to see here.

One reporter at the BBC made this remark and he was promptly fired. But do carry on with your outrage.

He is still getting paid to spew his putrid thoughts. He is with a podcast that people pay a subscription fee.

And my God, just cause he got fired doesn’t make it go away. You can’t unsee it, doesn’t make it hurt less. It out there forever. Are you saying because he got fired it’s less outrageous? That she should just get over it? It’s outrageous that you would even say such a thing.

DP. No, it means his remark wasn't acceptable, wasn't appropriate or socially acceptable. That's what getting fired means.

So when the guy who wrote the one racist article got fired were still supposed to feel rage and anger... forever?

Are you daft? Why do you keep acting like these are isolated incidents, after repeatedly showing you multiple examples? The whole "acting innocently dumb" act is really not a good look for a middle-aged pearl-clutching Karen.

Your “examples” are just that she somehow received worse press than other royals. Which is patently false. There was one nasty article and a couple of questionable articles by the press. You seem to not be grasping that we know about the examples, but can still believe that MM is a liar and a drama queen. Also - calling people names is “not a good look”

Forgot to add- you probably don’t remember this since you seem young and a new royal watcher, but Camilla was crucified in the press for years in the most unfair, nasty way. So no, I don’t see meghans treatment by the press any worse than others. That said, bad nasty press is not a good thing. The difference is that Camilla and the rest handled it with grace and dignity and Meghan handled it by going nuclear on Oprah.

Every woman who marries into the BRF has been savaged by the press at some point, or many points in certain cases. It comes with the job. But Meghan somehow thought she was different?

Why are you all pretending like a misogynistic press is justified? My God. So because people before you have suffered, you should suffer, too? Does that mean that you deserve to live a miserable life because countless others who came before you undoubtedly lived miserable lives as well?
Anonymous
Ah, yes, the double standards applied to Meghan Markle are toooootally normal. This reporter also tried to play off her double standards by using negative rumors about Meghan as justification (this is problematic in and of itself), but those rumors were debunked as a spoof. Vile.

Justified? No. It seems to be par for the course in England.

Do you know what par for the course means? It means that Meghan wasn't uniquely singled out. And the press was only one part of the reason that they left, not the main reason. So we can talk about the problematic press but then coupling the problematic British tabloids with Megxit is inaccurate and doesn't further any discussions.

Exactly. Just because those folks took the pain and said nothing, Meghan is supposed to do the same thing? Maybe if those folks had balls when it happened to them, those that came after them would not have had to suffer. Camilla was a home wrecker, she deserved to be crucified. She took it because of what she did. She did it for love. Good for her, I guess. Meghan said I love this dude, but I don’t have to take this BS. So ima blow up the whole damn thing. I love it. And I’m dying that y’all keep saying she broke up the family. If Harry wanted to be with his palace family, he would. That dude is doing exactly what he wants to do, and is exactly where he wants to be. When you guys drag your DH’s away from their mom and family, it’s all good, but when Meghan does it, she’s a “demon” GTFOH.

If Meghan wants to feel rage over that until the end of time, she can. There is no statue of limitations on the hate I would feel on someone comparing my new black baby to a monkey. And that picture being posted for the world to laugh at. And it’s “we’re”.
