We should save these emails and remind everyone of how reasonable they were back before it was their child who was 20 moved to a new school.

Both of my kids have been moved to new schools. Some people are capable of seeing the big picture and realize that the world doesn’t revolve around them.

Same. My older kid will likely get moved as part of a small group. I have younger kids though and I can see past my own nose.

These kids will be fine. You will be fine.

Fine?

Fine?

in a satisfactory or pleasing manner; very well.

Right, but you’re making a big assumption. “Fine” means different things to different people. But would agree that APS overall is just “fine.”

The point is that some parents of kids who will probably be moved as part of this process are acting like their lives are being destroyed. The opposite of fine.

Anyone read the Abby Raphael piece in ArlNow. Makes me think her ACDC friends on the SB are going to punt on moving options and make staff try to do both at the same time. So wrong. That article was so off base.

I think she hasn’t been paying much attention given how much time she spent discussing a proposal that was taken off the table days earlier.

Yeah, even if she wrote that piece before the second option was removed from consideration she should have had plenty of time to revise it before publishing.

She may be ridiculous. But she also may be a bell-weather of coming SB ridiculousness. Be forewarned. If you support this plan, you should email and call your SB members. Because all they are hearing from are crazy entitled people at Key and McKinley.

The survey isn't enough. That's for staff. You have to reach the SB if you want this to happen. They are going to bail otherwise.

I’ve never done that before. What is the best way to contact?

Anonymous wrote:I am not a McKinley parent, but I really don't understand why McKinley was picked over Tuckahoe. Many Tuckahoe students would be rezoned to Reed anyway. Tuckahoe would fit into Reed better, and any overflow would go into under capacity Nottingham and Discovery. Tuckahoe has less walkers so less walkers would be turned into bus riders. Plus, who cares if they can't expand option schools there - they are option schools whose capacity can be controlled! While I completely agree some of the Save McKinley folks are going off the rails, they have raised valid points, especially about APS's flawed assumptions and data analysis. The problem is that they are being aggressive and undermining their own valid arguments.

Agreed

Plus there's this nonsense about how there are so few walkers now... but 40 percent COULD be walkers. Um, OK...if they could be...why aren't they?!

Better and more effective is to get a group of your mindset together and go to open office hours - or organize people to go to different office hours so all the Board members hear you.

McKinley is (somewhat) more accessible to the rest of the County for an option school than Tuckahoe.
