NHS webpage:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ Clearly articulates steps people should take and a number for people who may have been exposed to call. CDC webpage: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html Vague tips on following basic hygiene for cold and flu season. |
Is the page you are looking for? https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/steps-when-sick.html Does that make you feel calmer or more panicky? |
It’s already here. We just aren’t testing for it. It will become epidemic. There will be quarantines. You should prepare for major disruptions to your life for a few months. It will happen. To pretend otherwise is irresponsible. There is no reason to panic. There is reason to prepare. When schools start closing, it will cause significant economic issues for families without childcare. People need to start thinking about how they will handle this. Do not depend on the government to help you. You are responsible for preparing. You are responsible for protecting your family.

I’m a CDC fan generally but i don’t know why they are only uodating the website 3x per week, and I do think they are being misleading in suggesting no community spread when the real answer is, at best, “we are not yet seeing hospitalizations that would suggest significant community spread.” Facts matter, so they should be more precise. |
It makes me more panicky. 1) The idea that only people who have just been in china can be tested is ASNINE. 2) There is no centralized hotline set up - which is not useful. We should have a hotline like the UK does, for people who think they might have the illness. A few questions on the phone could save dollars and lives. 3) That page is set up for people who KNOW they have the virus. So far only 500 people have been tested...so it's pretty useless. Additionally, one assumes you are getting clear/strict medical advice from a healthcare provider, not to mention your local health authority, if you have actually tested positive. |
My guess - They don’t have a clue what to do yet. They are trying to prevent panic while they figure it out. |
There are steps that individuals must take, but this is a government matter. It will require, inter alia, state by state legislation to prevent employers from firing people due to taking sick leave and other matters. It will result in massive disruptions to school calendars and the like. |
Which is amazingly pathetic. |
Maybe the CDC response would be better if their budget hadn't have been cut.
Waiting for the anti-government people to come out and talk about how they can handle this all by themselves. |
Stop inciting panic. Quarantines are useless at this point and the best course is to ride the wave. Currently, the death rate is centralized in elderly, above 80+ and those that are immunocomprimised. Again, it follows similar patterns of previous novel viruses. The biggest risk is mutation in the virus which makes it worse. Up until that point, it's probably better to be exposed to the virus strain early on so your body builds antibodies naturally. Given the characteristics of this virus, there's no way to stop it but there's no reason to panic over it either. |
This. |
Ironic that the anti-government people are the ones promoting panic and complaining that the government isn't doing more
But happy to defund programs, eliminate government |
Then China, Italy, Iran, S Korea, etc should just say screw it and let people on their merry way. Ride the wave Iran. Ride the wave China. Ride the wave Italy. No need for airport screenings, travel advisories or cancelled flights by the airlines. Everyone’s f’d anyway, so open the flood gates already. |
It's about balancing risks. By shutting cities, school, etc. there is a MASSIVE economic cost. Has the quarantining been successful anywhere so far? It's really tough to say yes. |
Half way quarantine doesn’t work |
