Meghan Markle and Prince Harry News and Updates Part 2

Did anyone else find it odd, that in this interview, with PLENTY of heavy topics like racism, questions about the baby's skin color, not dealing with mental health issues appropriately, heavy discussion on the family vs. the firm, and so on and so on, Meghan said that Kate made her cry about the f-ing flower girl dresses????

I'm sorry, I like Meghan and I'm rooting for her, but that seemed TOTALLY PETTY. I don't know why she just didn't say, when O. asked, "That is an example of a totally false tabloid story. In short, the answer is NO, I never made Kate cry about the dresses."

Answering like she did, did not fit well with the rest of the interview. It seemed like there were petty feuds and it just gave more ammo to those rumors. I found it so strange that she threw Kate under the bus like that, only to make herself look petty.

Also by the time this thread ends, we might not have a British monarchy left.

You really think those twits can bring down the British monarchy. One word from Charles and the paternity text showing the identity of Harry’s father is released. They kept it under wraps to preserve the monarchy but if the monarchy goes, so does Harry

And this...

Yes, thank you! I was wondering why I see no media fact checkers on this stuff today.

IF he is old enough to ride a pony why is he not riding a bike like his brother? He looks to be 4 or 5 years old.

I don't think most Americans get British humour, particularly that of older generations where racist stereotypes were seen as harmless good fun even if said without malice.

Humor, especially around color, is gone, banned from American society. There is no humor anymore.

Pro tip. It was never funny to some of us. We just were guilted/dismissed/threatened to keep our mouths shut

To be fair, all humor seems to be dead. Out of curiosity, what is funny to you? Do you laugh ever? Can you make fun of yourself? I’ve been called pasty white and told that I look ugly like a ghost, why is my face so pale? This coming from person of color. I laughed it off.

So many things are funny to me. And I'm pretty darn funny. Often told I'm the funniest person folks know. I've even been told that others I've discussed/depicted aren't as funny as I made them seem when discussing them. So, I'd say- a strong PhD in funny. And the other compliment I've been paid is 'I can take it as well as I dish it out.'
Congrats on the specific racial incidents to recount and laugh off (as there were so few). I've certainly lost count.

Media knows DCUM is on the case.

He pretty much said "I love and respect the Queen, I won't be commenting."

I live in Scotland so I can give you a pretty good rundown about what's happening here. Interestingly, Scotland is super progressive, a lot of people are pro-independence, and many young people are against the monarchy. However, with that being said, people are very protective of them as well. The news on this in the US seems pretty one-sided, it's definitely not here.

Omg this is so true.

100%

Their relationship was lightning quick...and since she had a 'past' they were all very concerned.

Based on how things played out, it seems like those with concerns were right to have them.

It sounds like they were concerned about the baby’s race.

Not a good look no matter how you try to spin it.

It sounds like one jerk made some comments, but not that it was endemic. They need racism to be part of the narrative for the sympathy tour to work though. Seems Charles and the Queen went out of their way to be welcoming, but that she was not temperamentally suited to the position. The firm knew a mature divorced actress with a toxic family would likely not fit in well to an archaic hierarchical structure with rigid protocols. Quelle surprise.

Yes. Family background and class standing is huge in Britain, having Royal blood. They were pissed for a long time that Kate was a 'commoner'. She was reviled for it early in the relationship.

And new $$. How much negative press was out there about her mom being a stewardess and the family getting rich off of a party planning company. Even old $ vs new $ is a big deal in this Class based society. It is very different than the US.

Yes, Kate was absolutely trashed for her family's non-aristo new money status. This lasted for a very long time, at least ten years. Meghan was not at all prepared for the similar drubbing based on class differences, plus adding in being a divorced American and bi-racial. Anyone could foresee the disaster and few people are thick-skinned enough to take it. It hardened Kate and would have hardened Meghan if she'd stayed. Do I think she's an egotistical narcissist? Probably. But I think this would have been incredibly hard for anyone, no matter how wonderful they were or weren't.

Yes I think this was a case where Kate benefited from being a Brit. Americans really underestimate the degree to which classism exists in the UK.

I am totally fine that are doing what they want to do but i agree that the crying about wedding stuff story is so important. I think there are plenty of tears shed about lots of wedding stuff. So what?
weddings are actually stressful.

I'm convinced Kate and William are going to have a 4th child after this interview to push him down to #7

But the real question is will they teach their fourth baby to be as racist as they are? Only time will tell...

They can't. Royal babies cost too much money. There were already questions when they had a 3rd. Take a look at all the other royals - the Queen's children only have 2 a piece and the Queen's grandchildren only have 2 a piece (except Kate).

You think that's a coincidence? Some magical combination of infertility and only liking two kids that affected 12 different couples?

According to other posters Kate should get a job to pay for their security and stop being an entitled bitch.

Meant wedding stuff crying is not important.

There is a difference between what Americans "know" about the Royals - even those who follow the Royals - and the protocols and internal procedures that govern within the Royal family. You don't fully know how it's going to be until you're in it. For example, I thought her point about being surprised at having to curtsy to the Queen in private is understandable.

It seems like the crux of the disagreement is that Harry's family, when presented with the opportunity to act as his family, instead fell back on Royal protocol and the Institution and that was very hurtful to him. I can sort of see his point. The press was attacking Meghan and all sorts of racial issues were surfacing which put things in a different light than the typical bad press that other members of the family had received. His family refused to defend them and refused to provide security for Archie. That may be protocol, but his point seemed to be that circumstances warranted a change from the protocol and his family refused. Instead of being treated like Harry, a loved member of the family and the son of Princess Diana and the future King who was concerned about his wife and son's well-being in part due to the actions, or lack thereof, of his family vis-a-vis the press, he was treated at arms-length. Then, once he stepped down, he was denied his own security detail and his father cut him off.

I imagine that chain of events would be really hurtful to most people who have been led to believe that they are an important and valued member of a "family."

Quoting this because this is very well said, and how anyone (on DCUM or otherwise) can argue that they wouldn't have done the same in this situation is truly mind-blowing. Using the example in this thread of Kate vs Meghan in the press... it's not about what the press said, it's about the response (or lack thereof) from the family.

It wouldn't be damaging, as H and M suggested, if the public found out that Phillip made the racist comments. 1) As you say, he's been saying this stuff for years. 2) He's not the monarch or an heir. 3) He's 99 years old. No one cares much what a dinosaur thinks.

So why was Meghan trashed for it when she was the supposed villain?

Do you really believe that pale, almost albino, individuals aren’t ostracized? Believe me, I would rather have MM’s complexion than mine. I am freakishly white and am reminded of it daily. It’s not attractive.
