I don't think it's about a payday at all (although that would be an added bonus). I think the family is suing RCI and hoping that RCI caves to avoiding any negative publicity by settling prior to the case going to court. I think the intention is to get any type of concession from RCI that will keep grandpa out of prison. I think that the LEO dad and public prosecutor mom realized that grandpa was likely going to be accused of some level of homicide (in this case negligent homicide) and that the best bet to avoid a conviction and prison time would be for them to sue RCI and get a settlement and to use the fact of a settlement to show that RCI realized that grandpa wasn't at fault, even if they don't admit guilt. They weren't counting on the huge public backlash against them and that RCI would choose to fight the case in the court of public opinion (most large companies try to avoid public battles and negative publicity as much as possible) and that their plan is backfiring on them. At this point, the are past the point of no return and they have to continue with the lawsuit. If they drop the lawsuit they are essentially committing grandpa to prison and probably at the maximum for sentencing guidelines for whatever he is convicted of. |
This. He is not a biological grandfather, he is the boyfriend of the grandmother, or possibly a second husband. It is not clear that he has ANY experience supervising young children at all. WHY would a former prosecutor and a current LEO advise the murderer of their toddler to refuse a breathalyzer? He looks far older than his age, I suspect he is an alcoholic. |
| Does anyone know what the sentencing guidelines are if he’s convicted? |
Staring as fact that grandpa leaned all the way out the window. Family is trying to say it wasn’t physically possible to do so. |
Absolutely. Is the father still working as a police officer? that's a scary thought, that this man who is so willing to lie for his own financial benefit is actually paid to enforce other people following the law! |
HAHAHHAHAHAHAA.....you don't know any police officers personally, do you? "Brotherhood of the Blue" is real. |
+1 No sane person goes the PR route when they are clearly at fault. |
+1 The family needs to back away slowly, not try to drum up more attention. |

OMG. Why are you so invested in coming back to post this over and over again? It's not been reported anywhere outside of this thread, but it just keeps coming back. Yep just searched again. Only other "reports" are other forum detectives posting what they heard/think/guess etc. |
This was my thinking too. |
| They have definitely miscalculated and feel like they can’t turn back. |
The FAMILY SAID IT??? Those people are lying liars who lie. |

The re-enactment makes it look even worse. In the re-enactment the man carefully has his arms folded towards himself to keep from reaching the window. That means he had that poor baby with arms stretched out holding by his fingertips A drunken fool or a murderer.
Also in the utube of deck 11 above you see a person leaning partly out of the window. So I think they choose a different window for the re enactment. The family and lawyer are scum. |
Good thing the video proves the family are liars. Again. |
