How about lots of uncertainty for everyone at Key or thinking about applying for Key? And lots of changes coming for lots of other communities too. |
If your kid wants to do immersion, do immersion. The location might change, but the program will be the same. Everyone will end up at a good school so don't sweat it. It really will all be fine in the end. |
| Unless you are zoned Drew, Carlin Springs, Barcroft |
Sorry. That doesn’t cut it. Kids in my neighborhood get on the bus at 6:50 for immersion. Location matters. I know few people who would stick to that schedule for immersion. |
NP. I've got a rising K-er for 2020. I want immersion. Key to ATS would be ok. Key to Carlin Springs would be really hard, commute-wise. I realize my commute is irrelevant to county needs, but it would be a nightmare for many current and rising Key parents to have to commute to the far western corner of the county when the current Key lottery boundary was drawn for the eastern part! The western immersion ppl already go to Claremont! So yes, location matters when you are advocating sending half the county as far away from current boundaries as is possible. |
How about McKinley? |
What is the start time? |
NP here - There is a clear racial and economic imbalance in the county. Ashlawn, Long Branch, and Fleet are much more diverse than Nottingham, Taylor, Discovery, Jamestown, etc. Why would you change the first group of schools to allegedly improve diversity without addressing the real issue? Clearly the prior poster wants to protect his/her own neighborhood school and avoid even the idea of busing.... |
Dude, people north of lee highway can afford to live anywhere and choose to live in a place with little if any diversity. Fine. Let them. They’ve already demonstrated with their feet that they don’t want o be part of the solution. |
DP but that would be crazy. Immersion doesn’t make any sense in the NW quadrant. None. |
I thought they did away with the Key/Claremont geographical distinction and both were now countywide option programs. |
Key starts at 9. I’m guessing she is talking about Gunston middle school immersion, which starts at 7:50, doors open at 7:30. |
The geographic zones for Claremont and Key could shift with a location change. It would have to gradually take full effect; but ultimately, I think an open lottery for either school would be feasible, within the confines of ensuring the 50/50 balance at each. |
DP. That makes more sense, although it would be pretty disingenuous on pp’s part to drop that into a discussion of ES boundaries without clarification, making it seem like this is happening to elementary students. |
Didn't you forget Randolph????
Parent of two Barcroft survivors - and they're quite fine, including honor roll and straight A's in middle school. |
