Discussion Boundary Map out for APS- elementary schools

I think this would be more useful with street names because you kind of have to guess at some of this- but I think it is a good move for APS to put this out now. Especially given that Westover is currently gearing up to fight for Reed as neighborhood- and Key is fighting full throated to keep immersion their. It will show Westover that banding together with Key to stop Key from moving will actually result in not good things for Westover or anyone else in the county.

Westover doesn’t need to fight to keep Reed a neighborhood school- that’s a done deal, as verified by one of the stated objectives of this boundary process:

Create attendance zones for the new school at Reed and for Arlington Science Focus School to be situated within its boundaries

Seems counter-intuitive to put ASFS in it's boundary and then take Carlin Springs out of it's boundary. Hope they trying to make a case for it to be a choice location...

I’m one of those parents . Based on comparison to the current map, I’m fairly sure the western “discussion” boundary for Taylor is Lorcom. Maywood, how do we feel about going to ASF?

I wouldn’t read too much into this map. It’s just demonstrating that option schools need to move.

That part of the map was so bizarre -- why would they move that part of Taylor (north of lee highway, not in the walk zone for any school) into ASFS? I get moving the walk zone for asfs, and moving western lyon village because its contigous and a more natural boundary, but why move maywood unless you're trying to keep the current taylor together and move it as a community to asfs? For demographic reasons maybe? Though for swap proponents, it looks like most of ASFS stays together in the proposal -- just gets moved all together to Taylor.

This reveals a lot. They want people to react strongly to this. That way they can make the case for option school moves.

They've been saying all along if they can't move programs they'll have to craft crazy boundaries. Take your pick.

Demographics need to accompany this map. As do streets.

Disagree that this would screw Barcroft. It looks like it takes Barcroft apartments out of Barcroft, leaving it with only Arlington Mill. Questionable from Barrett's perspective though.
