I think this would be more useful with street names because you kind of have to guess at some of this- but I think it is a good move for APS to put this out now. Especially given that Westover is currently gearing up to fight for Reed as neighborhood- and Key is fighting full throated to keep immersion their. It will show Westover that banding together with Key to stop Key from moving will actually result in not good things for Westover or anyone else in the county.

Is the Ashlawn boundary split by CS? That whole middle section is a bunch of whacky looking boundaries.

yes- that appears to be true. And Carlin Springs appears to not actually be in its boundary. I'm assuming that the Carlin Springs not being in its boundary is a mistake, but that the split is intentional b/c continguity is a 'consideration' not a mandate.

And this one makes the case to put an option school in zone 1.

Talk about gerrymandering. Looks like an effort to split up some of the poverty along the pike, which is a good thing. But it makes other schools less diverse, such as fleet and Abingdon. Barcroft looks like it is screwed though. That should just be a choice school. It gets the bad end of the stick every time.

Demographics need to accompany this map. As do streets.

Full throated?

No one wants that map. They are making the case to move choice schools.

“This map (What-If Scenario for Planning for the 2020 Elementary Boundary Process) is a visual representation of a “what if” scenario that shows what boundaries could potentially look like in September 2021, given the challenges APS faces today. This map demonstrates, for discussion purposes, the long, extended boundaries that would be required if APS uses existing schools efficiently (to maximum capacity).”

+1. Remember, we’re not at the boundary-drawing stage yet, we’re in the option school location phase. Everything they’re producing right now is about making the case for relocating option schools.

I think I missed something. Are they redoing ALL the elementary school boundaries this time? I thought they were only a few schools that were supposed to be part of both boundary processes (2018 and next year).

Oh boy. Look out Nottingham McKlinley & Tuckahoe. Westover is coming for you.

Yes. All boundaries. They were originally trying not to do everything, but then they realized they had to. I'm just glad my kids are older. Ugh. But I'm glad for big proposals. They need to just bite the bullet and fix things. I hope they care about demographics. If you are going to have ugly boundaries that's fine with me if it results in balanced schools.

Just do the big change and be done. The past few years have been horrible.

I sort of agree with this, and I am in the cross hairs of this (currently have a K student and a 3 year old). The last go round just seemed to cause more problems than it solved.

We may to move schools but that’s fine. Way better than the backstabbing over the past few years.

Nice, I had been hoping they would release a map like this. BTW I like the people who want street names so they can decide whether or not they care.
