Dumb question, but if/when immersion moves it’ll be 2021/22, right? Not next year?
Yes. Nothing is changing next year. Lots of uncertainty for incoming K kids because they aren't committing to deciding anything until fall 2020.
How about lots of uncertainty for everyone at Key or thinking about applying for Key? And lots of changes coming for lots of other communities too.
If your kid wants to do immersion, do immersion. The location might change, but the program will be the same. Everyone will end up at a good school so don't sweat it. It really will all be fine in the end.
Sorry. That doesn’t cut it. Kids in my neighborhood get on the bus at 6:50 for immersion. Location matters. I know few people who would stick to that schedule for immersion.
NP. I've got a rising K-er for 2020. I want immersion. Key to ATS would be ok. Key to Carlin Springs would be really hard, commute-wise. I realize my commute is irrelevant to county needs, but it would be a nightmare for many current and rising Key parents to have to commute to the far western corner of the county when the current Key lottery boundary was drawn for the eastern part! The western immersion ppl already go to Claremont! So yes, location matters when you are advocating sending half the county as far away from current boundaries as is possible.
The geographic zones for Claremont and Key could shift with a location change. It would have to gradually take full effect; but ultimately, I think an open lottery for either school would be feasible, within the confines of ensuring the 50/50 balance at each.
