Problem solved, end thread. Stay in Herndon and be happy with it, the alternative is terrible. |
Why does anyone in Herndon worry about people in GF and the school they attend? They are doing the reputation of Herndon residents no favors. In fact, they are trying really hard to make them seem like jealous people who want to smack the ice cream cone out of the next kid's hand because they don't have one. I certainly never gave any thought to whether people living in Herndon enjoyed their lives but I had no reason to consider otherwise until very recently. |
I wonder exactly how much money makes the difference? It sounds like a productive use of funds. Fcps should take a look. |
The difference is that the Herndon poster comes across as one person with a beef, and you sound like every other smug, entitled poster from Great Falls. Herndon 1, Great Falls 0 |
Not really. Sounds like a few people here from Herndon have problems. You clearly don't know GF. Some of us grew up working class or middle class and are now upper middle class or "rich" through a combination of hard work, hard decisions, natural ability and a little luck. Some of us grew up rich. Some people have 8,000 sq ft houses and some live in 1200 sq ft 3br homes. Many are somewhere in between. The "smug rich people" thing is just lazy. However, at least we an agree that all GF residents should stay out of Herndon High School to prevent making the people already there miserable with our many flaws. |
Not sure much can be for the adults, but some of the GF kids might be salvageable if they attend Herndon. ![]() |
Herndon poster is frustrated, i think. She or They have proposed several different possibilities. When, it was finally presented that Langley needed bodies and that is why Great Falls is assigned there, she went after those on the other side of the DTR. When asked where they were going to put the kids since Herndon is already full, her solution was to bus the poor kids away. Never mind that the kids at Floris are assigned to South Lakes because South Lakes needed bodies. She also wants to take the kids out of Carson, which is just down the street from Floris. I think, since Herndon Middle is also posted here, that the Middle School is Herndon poster's main concern. And, the really, really poor kids can walk to Herndon Middle, so redistricting them is unreasonable. Herndon mom needs to move. |
Not funny. Do you also stereotype by race? |
Best not risk it. Dialing the snark back a notch, I haven't talked to anyone in Great Falls who is happy to hear that longtime residents of Herndon are dissatisfied with the schools there. It's one thing to be proud that your own child's lacrosse team won over the next school or that the drama club took home all the Cappies. It's quite another to hear rumors that gang activity is causing an unsafe environment in another school or the school is badly overcrowded. A renovation is fixing the second issue but the first is harder. As far as I have seen there are no complaints about the quality of instruction, at least not beyond the elementary level. There are alot of clubs and sports there but perhaps the kids don't get to travel as much as they could for competitions because there isn't enough parental support? Are there clubs that can't get going due to money problems? I know that some kids transfer to other public schools for courses not offered at their base school. How many people not liking Herndon have tried that? Is admin at HHS making it difficult to leave? |
I think this thread has been driven by one poster who is upset about Herndon Middle. If you read through the whole thread, that kind of solves the puzzle. I knew someone who taught at Herndon years ago. Even then, the Great Falls kids went to Langley. Why? Langley needed the kids and Herndon had plenty. That story has not changed. |
Perhaps the Herndon middle school student can go to TJ. Or they should move to a better school pyramid instead of trying to mess with others who are happy with their schools.
We moved for this very reason. |
Blah blah blah. |
And we also lived near a very large low income Hispanic population with rumors of MS13. My child was in AAP and had a decent peer group. We decided to move before high school like many other people. We lived by Lee HS and my child was at Springfield Estates. |
Considering your own child's needs is racist. Sorry you didn't get the memo. |
