When are Herndon Middle and Herndon High going to get a break?!??

My guess is that the school board is salivating at the prospect of zoning a bunch of apartments in Tysons to Langley.

Some of the Tysons apartments already go to an elementary school that feeds primarily to Langley. Others do not, but are only four miles from Langley, or about 1/3 the distance to the school of some areas zoned for Langley.

I don’t know why anyone at Langley would take issue with moving at least some of those apartments to Langley when it has so much available space. It would still leave McLean and Marshall with other, lower-income apartments in Falls Church.

No one has issues with tysons apartments going to Langley. It is the school board who isn't doing it because apparently some broader boundary study has to be done.

The law says we have to educate kids who need language services until they are 22 years old as long as they entered school before they're 18. If someone was new to our school system at say 14, and in 4-5 years learns enough English to be placed in 9th grade at a base school, would they be placed in 9th grade classes with everyone else even though they're 18 or 19?

Perhaps we will... by forming a proper City and seceding from Fairfax County, like Vienna and Falls Church have done. I for one am tired of having our (high-achieving) children used as pawns, and our (quite signifigant) tax dollars spent on pet projects elsewhere.

I don't know if population numbers/density supports that but there are smaller towns so I guess it could work.

This is what I find so laughable. Communities like yours eat up the lion's share of resources when you compare what you put in to versus what you actually take out. High density neighborhoods generate a far larger share of the tax revenue on all fronts. It's like comparing Northern VA to S. Va. Think abot how many tax dollars sit on 3 acres in high density areas vs on 3 acres in less dense areas. You are over inflating your importance to generation of tax revenue in the local economy.

If only all these self important rich people would leave Northern Virginia, it would be so much better.

Then there would be no more scheming to get their kids into the not-rich schools.

Look at all the resources those evil rich people are using:

Family Services Program Directory: Financial Assistance

They TOTES rely on everyone else's taxes to subsidize food for their kids, and the larger community to feed them as well (HUGE food pantries at Langley and Cooper, and teachers send hundreds of kids home on Fridays with food to get them through the weekend). They rely on scholarships so that their kids can play sports and attend camps. They are the ones picking up free backpacks with school supplies in August and free winter coats in the fall.

I don't know what the process of becoming a city entails. But I don't think GF residents would be clamoring for lots and lots of services and the staff to administer them. Anyway, a smaller population means a smaller government so it would be entirely manageable. Several organizations are already handling community events and concerns, so the experience is already here.

The point is you are not rich or you wouldn’t need to bus your kids from Herndon to Langley. You live in GF-Herndon. If you were rich you would own a home in Great Falls proper or McLean.

Also if you were actually rich you wouldn’t be worried about being zoned to your actual neighborhood school with the poors, because you know, you could always just send your kids to private.

#1---you claimed GF/Mclean folks (known for the depth of our privation) eat up resources, much more than we contribute with our paltry taxes on our 3-10 acre lots.

#2---When presented with all the MANY services we DON'T use, you then say "Well you ain't rich or you wouldn't need to go to Langley lol" I was waiting for some super list of things my neighbors were getting that I wasn't. I wanted to know, I was feeling cheated! No enumeration of all the many ways we are sucking the county dry. Disappointing.

We have no problem with the bus ride to Langley (or the car ride since an active kid requires lots of picking up from activities freshman and sophomore years especially) Some GF neighbors take their kids up to Potomac and Madeira everyday, though of course many private schools have pick ups in various areas. The kids take a 10-15 minute ride in dad's or mom's car to their bus. In any case, the rides can be long and we can manage them.

You know alot about how rich people manage their money, do you?

Those who manage to stay rich or (upper middle class, since many people don't know the difference), I mean.

Tell me, why is it that lottery winners and NFL players are often broke a few years after their checks stop coming, when they were raking in millions?

People in Herndon clearly have a deep seated for the people in Great Falls. Why is that?

How have these people wronged the Herndon folks? Is buy a house in and of itself an assault of some kind? I don't know about the rest of you, but I really don't think about how the others will feel when I make a purchase of any kind.

What's wrong with doing well and selecting the house you like. Paying your bill and raising your kids. Being part of a community. Isn't that what everyone aspires to?

Bottom line if you don't like the way your schools are being handled, complain to the people who are doing this to you and your community. Stop griping about the problem and fix it by voting and volunteering. Not wishing ill to people that have in no way contributed to your woes.

Pull up your big girl, big pants and cope. Stop deflecting your crap onto people who had nothing to cause it.

I don't remember class resentment ever being as bad as it had been in the past few years, and I grew up middle class with half my extended family working class.

Why would you generalize about how “people in Herndon” feel about “people in Great Falls” based on posts that may have come from no more than a handful of posters? It sounds like you’re just bored and trying to bait one of those posters, perhaps because your life in Great Falls isn’t all that interesting.

Either way, you’re doing Great Falls and the already snooty reputations of its schools no favors.
