Rich Californians buy their way into USC, hence the moniker, University of Spoiled Children.

No they buy their way into UCLA and Berkeley more.

Choosing Pepperdine over Michigan is ridiculous.

+1 . That's a bad choice.

Ann Arbor

Cold but better school. Fair trade.

For undergraduate studies, private almost always wins, especially when the private is top 50 US News.

The weather and lifestyle there are fabulous, even at tough schools.

Agreed - my DC's two choices were UCLA and Michigan. DC loved Michigan as a university but the environment just couldn't compete with LA. UCLA and Westwood are gorgeous but I've also been on the USC campus and it is beautiful as well, and the immediate surrounding area is great too. There's just no comparison to lifestyle in LA. DC is probably never coming back east! And I'll probably head there too when I retire in a few years.

The immediate surrounding area around USC is a sh*thole. Nobody in their right minds retires to California anymore, unless they are moving near family.

You must not have been in the immediate area around USC recently - it's cleaned up a lot. And yes, I have tons of friends and family in California and I happen to love it there.

29% Pepperdine vs 71% Michigan. https://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=Pepperdine+University&with=University+of+Michigan+-+Ann+Arbor

Enough with the nut jobs who think everyone hates snow and wants to go to college by the beach. It's just not true and the data show that.

A few blocks of cleanup is not indicative of the surrounding area. It’s bad and dangerous!

Michigan seems to do quite well with cross admits. That’s a lot more telling than a boring location with a nice view. Malibu is boring.

Good wheather is a plus, but not that much important.

I'd prefer Michigan for the academics. But what data says that people want cold over the beach???

Malibu is boring. It takes forever to get to the city. It takes forever to get anywhere in LA the way it is so spread out! Why do you think Kobe was taking a helicopter?
Anonymous
My DC chose pomona over Michigan and other cold schools.

I love to visit.

Malibu is a tinderbox.
